It’s wild that the most iconic moment of SAY ANYTHING… doesn’t come at the end, but with ~20 minutes left in the movie.

My wife told me not to burn my tongue drinking hot chocolate, and I scrunched my face and said, "Thanks Mom!" then I took a sip and burned my tongue.

The final Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. The entire page is mostly white as they're in the winter snow. The pair is walking with a sledge, nicely duffled in in scarves, hats, gloves. Calvin delightedly exclaims 'wow, it really snowed las night! Isn't it wonderful?'. Hobbes follows up with 'Everything familiar has disappeared! The world looks brand-new!' -- A new year... a fresh, clean start!' adds Calvin. As they look over the landscape, Hobbes observes 'it's like having a big white sheet of paper to draw on!' -- 'A day full of possibilities!' Calvin affirms. They get ready on their sledge and Calvin tells his friend 'it's a magical world, Hobbes, ol' buddy... let's go exploring!', and the pair sledges off into the wintery landscape.

At a rink in Ajax, Ontario where parents are losing their collective minds over U9 girls hockey. It’s 1-0 in the third. These teams aren’t even rep level. Hockey in πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ is like Football in πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ. (Yes, I’ve watched both.)

I’m not sure what this is all leading to, but if you got here…”Hi #scriptsky, my name is Chris Dymond and I’m a writer/director from πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦β€

getting the spec script done&then working on it until it’s β€œready”—which I think means when you think it is done and then when the producers think it’s doneβ€”is a big step in the process because the fate of the script will come with more factors than I can worry about or even think of worrying about.

So many. Like drop in the ocean type cliche number of projects don’t get made. And yet, I still write. Writing is humbling in so many ways and yet I still write thinking β€œthis is the one.” As do thousands of others. And it doesn’t matter if you write it in a weekend or in a year or in ten years.

It didn’t find a home. That said, it is the closest I have come to having a Hollywood movie made. Sure, the disappointment was there, but I learned so much during the journey (including stuff about myself). Now, I am sharing this not to name drop, but to share that this happens to so many projects.

In 2020, I wrote an original script (MUNGO) during a mentorship program at Imagine Entertainment. Under the mentorship of Kieran Mulroney, the script was optioned to Imagine Kids + Family and had Oscar-nominated Lasse Halstrom set to direct and Jacob Tremblay set to star. It was pitched around town.
