Oregon Governor Tina Kotek just took back control of the national guard.

She is sending the Oregon national Guard back home and is directing the California national guard to leave the State.

Worth noting the video of Rev. Black getting attacked was from mid September. ICE and DHS have only escalated since.

I am of the relatively rare belief that LLMs are very useful and not environmentally damaging in comparison to most anything else we do but that generative video is horrifically bad on both counts and mixing that with the attention dynamics of social media is a disaster.

Among the more obvious differences, this was about using the Alabama National Guard to enforce federal law *in Alabama*, where the state government was defying court orders.

Note that even in that much more extreme context, Kennedy used the Alabama National Guard, not some other state's.

- user keeps their data, identity, followers. nothing is lost

This is the way to do it, technically and on the human level. And I appreciate that @rude1.blacksky.team got a meaningful decision/update together before speaking on this instead of wading into the first wave of confusion.

one thing worth noting: the total number of National Guard troops deployable to Chicago is 700 (400 from TX, 300 from IL). that is compared to about 2000 in DC and 4,700 in LA at the height of both deployments.
