Warren Buffett’s final letter to shareholders.

My favourite two lines:

“Kindness is costless but also priceless”

“Keep in mind that the cleaning lady is as much a human being as the Chairman.”

Warren we salute you 🫡 🇺🇸

A true giant among men.

I have been a business reporter for 13 years and would strongly advise against signing up for a 50-year mortgage, for multiple reasons, including the amount of interest it would accrue and the likelihood of discriminatory lending rates.

Trump Will Lose His Court Battle Over Tariffs. Why That’s an Economic Win. The president should take a court loss as an off-ramp for his failed tariff experiment, Ben Harris writes in a guest commentary.

“It is important to note that roughly 30% of the existing tariffs have been imposed by authorities other than IEEPA. Those tariffs aren’t threatened by the current case and will continue to stand regardless of the court’s decision.”

I can see why a UK small-midcap equities broker might think this policy is good for their own balance sheet.

The best way for the gov. to promote UK investment is

1. fiscal responsibility to prevent uncertainty due to currency devaluation fears.

(If the pound sinks 10% compared to the currency used by an international investor they lose 10%)

2. Supply side reforms to make wealth creation more dynamic.

If UK investments are attractive on individual merit then they will naturally attract capital through the power of the free market.

If UK investment opportunities are not beautiful, you cannot force people to invest in them.

Well it looks like I have been blocked by one of the Liberals on this post for expressing a view on this issue.

If someone silences people for holding an opposing view to them, they do not care about freedom of expression and are hence not a Liberal in the true sense from my perspective.

With the quota decision, it doesn’t mean a Trans person cannot run for any of the positions.

If the quotas are meant to make the party decisions more representative of society as a whole, why not have separate quotas for trans men and women?

They have specific policy interests that affect them.

I am not convinced by arguments, for example, that a trans person having to take part in the category of sex assigned at birth is the same as racial discrimination.

Racial discrimination means someone cannot take part at all due to their race.

The trans person can still take part in the sport.

But that’s how it goes outside the friendly confines of recieved wisdom.

To bolster his own confidence, Art adhered to a simple proposition: “I’m not fighting another person,” he said.

“I’m fighting the market, just one person against the market.”

When you follow a contrarian path, Art often said, “The investment community can make you look bloody wrong.”

A decision will look wrong the next day if you can buy the same stock for less— the very opposite of an investor’s most fundamental aspiration.

Ideas and judgements about markets or stocks are easy to defend, when they reflect prevailing opinion, but going your own way is a lonely task that pits an investor against conventional wisdom and often against his or her own inner voice.
