In October 2024, the U.S. unemployment rate was 4.1 % and the inflation rate was 2.6 %. Now, unemployment is 4.4 %, inflation has risen to 3 %, and we’ve added $3 Trillion to the national debt. The “Golden Age” feels more like the “Broke-Ass Olden Age.”

We need legislation that, at the very minimum, requires that non-American accounts be *prominently* labeled. The onus should be on the platform to determine this, and there should be stiff penalties (to include 'suspension' of the platform's operation) for non-compliance.

But once the system has produced "intelligent" robots that can build our houses, fix our cars, perform surgery, and do our dishes, it has won, and there's no further use for the motivation it provides. And I don't see anything that can be done that preserves either the current capitalist system or the cultural mythology that supports it. Even the Palo Alto libertarians are floating UBI, but they all imagine it somehow supplementing/augmenting capitalism. I don't see how that could work.

Within Trump's current term we'll see unemployment above 25%, which is higher than it ever got in the the great depression, and it'll 1) happen much faster and 2) first affect a class of people (white collar middle- to upper-income desk jockeys) who haven't been conditioned to accept defeat.
