If you're someone who voted for this and are now shocked by the incompetence and the overreach, perhaps you just aren't smart enough to be voting.

(Damn. I guess my political hiatus is officially over.)

Reminds me of Bill Griffith and Justin Green simultaneously.

Winter in northern Nevada has been disappointing for those who enjoy accumulated precipitation. This will be gone by tomorrow.

Mural near midtown Reno. Not sure of the artist, but the kid seems distraught.

Stray Dog/High and Low review – Kurosawa lifts crime drama to astonishing new peaks Drawing on hardboiled US fiction, as American film had fed on his own Seven Samurai, the director brings unforgettable intensity to his anxious noir

At this point, a national bird of bad moral character seems appropriate.

Eraserhead (1977) was not the first Midnight Movie, but it was the first Midnight Movie to make the audience shut up, sit down and watch the goddamn film. (That's my memory of it, anyway.)

Last night's movie. Seven Keys to Baldpate (1947). Originally a 1913 bestselling whodunnit, it was turned into a play by George M. Cohan, which was adapted for the screen seven times. Ironic, that. This one stars Phillip Terry, although they obviously wanted Fred MacMurray.

Should read "carefully crafted implausibility."

Tonight's feature. Deadline at Dawn (1946). irresistibly stilted dialogue and carefully crafted implausibly from Cornell Woolrich, Clifford Odets and an uncredited William Cameron Menzies. Flawless cinematography by Nicholas Musuraca. Slippery and spicy. "Time takes so long and it goes so fast."

Tonight's first feature. Un carnet de bal (1937). Directed by
Julien Duvivier. A wistful young widow finds a dance card from her past and sets out on a disquieting trip down memory lane. Exquisite film. Many questions are answered. Except why the French don't use capital letters in their titles.
