Sadly, depending on where people are, that part may or may not be new.

Globally, 2026 (and maybe a few years leading up to it) is a perfect storm of the ideas found in the β€œ1984” and β€œBrave New World” novels. Control narratives where possible and flood the feed with distraction so that nobody can focus on any one thing long enough to build something better.

Let me know when LLMs get past the point where a new employee producing similar results wouldn’t be summarily let go in their probationary period. #AI #LLM

That bubble needs to burst quickly. AI has some really cool uses (finding needles in haystacks and other large-scale analytics) but those aren’t what most people are using it for. It’s too often a solution desperately trying to find problems to justify itself.

I don’t think I’ve seen a server (that wasn’t serving a DNS role) with a static IPv6 yet. I’m sure I’ll run across one eventually.

I’m sure… though it disturbs me a bit that we have scenarios where we’re doing this.

A silly excuse used to avoid #IPv6: The addresses are too hard to remember. Here’s a thought: Maybe if the addresses are β€’reallyβ€’ hard to remember, folks will stop configuring them directly into client configurations and we won’t have to go finding broken stuff when the service moves. #Grr #NetEng

I'm tired of dealing with folks who never get back to me with answers. New idea: Not going to ask, "Is this the right thing to do?" Instead, I'll go with, "I'm doing this on Wednesday. If this isn't going to work for you, provide an alternative solution by Monday evening." #TheyHadTheirChance

I’m sure there’s an ill-defined context in which it makes sense, but nailing it down might prove a challenge.

It’s a bit ironic that so many Zero Trust Network Access solutions require that we trust a vendor to run it for us. I’m guessing the terms involve a liability-limiting service agreement too. πŸ€” #ZTNA #InfoSec #NetEng

MikroTik Cloud Hosted Router Images in containerlab Pining for turkey and stuffing, I settled for containers and VMs instead. In the process, I've offered some advice on better use of RouterOS in containerlab.

No turkey and stuffing for me, but containers and VMs? Sure. Let's make #MikroTik #CHR images a bit friendlier for declarative #containerlab use. #RouterOS #NetEng #vrnetlab ghostinthenet.info/chr-in-conta...

I didn't β€’meanβ€’ to do it, but while going down rabbit holes this week I switched from EVE-NG to #ContainerLab. Took a bit to get the SSH keys and jumps working, but they work. #EdgeShark is amazing, though I had rebuild cshargextcap to properly support mDNS. Write-up will be forthcoming. #NetEng

Interesting behaviour confirmed by @mikrotik.social support. If RouterOS’ DNS client gets an A record and a AAAA record in response to a query, it will use the A record and never fall back to the AAAA record regardless of IPv4 reachability. Methinks that’s a bug.

In network architecture, we desperately try to avoid shared fate when building resilient designs. The application architectures that rely exclusively Cloudflare or (a couple of weeks ago) AWS US East don’t appear to have made the same efforts. #NetEng #SharedFate #Down #Outage

There’s always another πŸ•³οΈ to go down. Now it’s a packet-level analysis of raw L2TPv3 pseudowires vs UDP encapsulated ones to find out β€’whyβ€’ the raw ones come in with a lower automatic MTU than the UDP ones do.
