@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social's vision is an NYC where economic growth & economic justice go hand in hand. Thatโs only a radical notion because weโve become so accustomed to economic injustice as the norm.
Doesnโt get better than working with @linamkhan.bsky.social & @saalevine.bsky.social again!

This week, @governor.ca.gov signed SB 766 โ the Combating Auto Retail Scams (CARS) Actโ into law. Sponsored by Sen. Ben Allen with support from Professor Ted Mermin, Senior Fellow Sam Levine, and others, SB 766 strengthens protections for Californians buying or leasing vehicles.

Watch former FTC official @saalevine.bsky.social testify today about how AI pricing tools are threatening basic economic fairness.
Surveillance pricing "is only possible because weak privacy protections allow companies to track our behavior and predict how much we can be pushed to pay.โ

Proud to support the FAIR Business Practices Act, which would prohibit unfair or abusive practices under New York law. With the federal government turning its back on consumers, this legislation is more critical than ever.

The FTC's ban on hotel and concert junk fees, now in force, "shows that smart policiesโdriven forward by determined leadersโ can still break through even in these cynical and polarized times."

Last week the Trump-Vance FTC filed a brief defending Click-to-Cancel and describing industry legal attacks as โbased on a fallacy.โ
Likely to lose in court, industry is now looking to Congress for a bailout. This effort should be cancelled immediately.

Commissioner Slaughter and I just sued to clarify that we're still FTC commissioners. But this is bigger than us. This is about economic stability. If the President can break a 90-year-old Supreme Court ruling to fire us for no reason, he can do it to the Fed, the FDIC and SEC.

State of the Bureau: A BCP Progress Report
On Monday I leave the FTC after eight wonderful years, most recently leading the Bureau of Consumer Protection. I cannot imagine more fulfilling work.
Today is my last full day as Director of BCP. Weโve had in incredible run. Taking on junk fees, commercial surveillance, subscription traps, and more, weโve advanced the most ambitious consumer protection agenda in decades. And as I detail below in a farewell post, weโve delivered.
