I really enjoyed our game. I still talk about it sometimes.

Not that there’s any one reason I’ve had to pivot away from content creation these past few months, but certainly the pile of empty promises of reciprocation I collected over the years is one of the many.

Playing 7th Sea tonight, and my character is making some bold damn choices. In the service of a powerful fey, he is about to fight a storm born of her grief. To get her to let him do that, he had to agree to be her knight, but he is powered by an ancient enemy of hers. Choices.

One of the things that is utterly bizarre about ICE never identifying themselves is how opposite of cop culture it is. For generations, cops whipped out badges to defend what they were doing, as part of arrests. They call it a shield, for fuck sake. ICE doesn't even try to defend what it is doing.

Definitely way more culturally aware than most of its contemporaries.

The biggest surprise in this history is that Traveler at least nodded at the ideas of systemic oppression and racism early on with an explicit nod to the fact that labels of different species was explicitly biased, largely pointless, and used to oppress by more powerful civilizations.

I was Star Frontiers back in the day. I just ran into it first. I was well into adulthood when I dabbled into Traveler. I will say it was a little daunting at that point. There was so much lore defined and different forks to the game. I do wish I had spent more time with it now.

I have had a copy of This Free Trader Beowulf: A System History of Traveler by @shannonappelcline.bsky.social in pdf for a while and finally got around to reading it. It is very good. Traveler is a game I have only played a little of so getting a detailed history is a lot of new info for me.

Short list of things that are incredibly easy to do as a man in America:
- Not ever wear black or brown face
- Not get an SS tattoo
- Not sexually assault anyone

A while back, I picked up the game tie in novel for Exile, Archimedes Engine by Peter F Hamilton. Not a lot of game tie in novels are nearly 100 pages long, especially before the game comes out. The book is good so far.
