Yes! Republicans won a majority of seats with a minority of votes in 2012. It followed the historically aggressive gerrymandering in 2010. @mattyglesias.bsky.social was trying to make a huge important point but screwed it up with a typo.

Important typo: “By contrast, it’s a huge deal that in 2012 the GOP won a small House minority on the back of a small loss in the popular vote.” GOP won a MAJORITY in 2012.

Someone should do a story on the minor leaguers who get cut because of these new acquisitions.

Any competency-based restriction would be incoherent unless it applies to all ages equally.

I love what MLB has done with the ASG. Treat it like the exhibition it is. It was dumb to make it “count.” Now it’s fun. When managers had to both try to win and try to play everyone, it was impossible and didn’t work.

We should all be yelling at our state officials about the complete insanity of posting vital emergency information *exclusively* on Twitter/X and/or Facebook in 2025.
There is absolutely NO good excuse for this.
Many, many people don’t use those platforms. Many never did.

#RankedChoiceVoting foretold this, really, because winning requires a majority. A poll 5 months out showing Cuomo way ahead, but only at 32% despite 100% name recognition, and some unknown socialist running in the single digits was actually a really bad sign for Cuomo.

What about it? It needs to be used in more races so we don’t decide the winner is the one with 27% of the vote instead of the one with 26%.

Okay, I’m typically terrible at understanding song lyrics, but this one I’ve always heard correctly for whatever reason. I never knew what it was getting at, though, and still don’t. So I’m not understanding your reaction.

In general, yes, but to have zero exceptions in ten rounds? Are there no cross-endorsements? There’s no #9 who is closest in philosophy to #4 or something like that?

This poll is bizarre. With ELEVEN candidates, every single one is eliminated in exactly the reverse order of their first-round vote total? In not a single round does the order of surviving candidates change due to reallocation? It seems too neat. Someone should check the methodology. #RCV #IRV

Yeah. No evidence that #RCV will have that effect. Plenty of reason to believe it won’t (sources say he’s unlikely to get many second- or third-place votes). RCV is not a “wild card”; it _reduces_ the likelihood of random-ish irrational outcomes by ensuring the winner has majority support.

Wait, a few months ago you said to throw all caps in the garbage because they’re unlikely to be the same type of plastic. Years before that, you said to leave plastic caps on plastic bottles. So these flip-flops reflect the needs of whoever we sell plastic to?

One finds oneself both underqualified for anything senior-level and (perceived as) overqualified for anything lower-level even if it pays more than the government job one is willing to leave.

It had nothing to do with their race. It was about the president’s need to have people who support his priorities. He fired the two least likely to support his racist agenda, you see.

I had such a sad reaction to this exclamation point. This will be my second season of not watching #Nats games because I finally got around to canceling cable. It’s just too expensive to justify. I’d pay a reasonable amount to watch my team but not if it requires me to pay for a whole cable package.

Let it be noted that on the day Trump portrayed the United States as in deadly peril from which it needed to be "saved" it was prosperous, at peace and experiencing no civil strife following an election accepted as democratic by Trump himself. /5
