If your reply is people should know the apps by colorβ¦ first, what about people who are red-blue colorblind? Second, if youβre relying on color, why have shapes at all? What value do three vertical rectangles with absolutely minuscule internal details bring to the table?
29.10.2025 17:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Finally, what on earth is the circle? I had to click it to find out that itβs PowerPoint. Who thinks PowerPoint, an application that has a default document shape of a 16x9 rectangle, should be represented by a circle?
29.10.2025 17:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0β¦BUT the lines between cells are so indistinguishable that this just look like interlocking Ls, not cells. At best it has you trying to remember what app begins with the letter F. Is this figma?
The purple one is close to identical to the second icon, so how is someone supposed to guess which?
This is shockingly bad icon design. Okay, the outlook icon looks like an envelope, fine.
The second icon makes me think of the letter E, so excel, except itβs the wrong color. Excel is green, so the third icon makes sense if you realized itβs trying to show individual cellsβ¦
Told one if them how I keep just watching my serve for spin and placement instead of centering myself. He said when I get older Iβll move less and less. Let him know my age and he said βNo, way, you look twenties, good for you.β
I replied I would gladly trade looking old to feel that young instead.
My main serve is from the far left corner. Tonight, my opponents all caught me with wide right returns.
29.10.2025 04:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Doubles match, opponent backspin serves. I return with as much backspin as I can. Barely makes it to the net, clipping the top. Ball hits table next to the net. It bounces up, reverses and backspin climbs over the net to my side.
I will never hit a shot that perfect again.

10.10.2025 21:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Okay, that 11 is going to piss me off all weekend. Like I said right after taking it, there were parts that seemed to test memory, not English comprehension and I'm certain that's where I got dinged.
04.10.2025 05:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Took a test to prove I speak English. Iβm not a fan of how portions are designed. Some test memory, not comprehension. Another has you describing an image in far too short a timeframe. Again, that could be a test of cognitive analysis or time management, but I donβt see how it tests language skill.
02.10.2025 04:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Note to self: NEVER drink coffee right before table tennis to improve your ability to track the ball. Your abdomen will collapse into a black hole two hours later.
06.08.2025 05:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The NYTimes can take their "don't you dare make life better for people" agenda and fuck right off. They are a leech on the left, drawing lifeblood and contributing nothing. Better to let it go bankrupt so an actual non-conservative news source can rise in its place. www.cnn.com/2025/06/24/p...
25.06.2025 03:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0EDIT: Hours later, Iβm really feeling it in the knees. This new form is equivalent to doing a 1/4 squat, leaping up and forward while twisting my torso, then resetting back to do it again in the .2 seconds it will take the opponent to return the ball.
10.05.2025 06:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It was much more reliant on my knees and hips and much less use of my wrist. I was sweaty and exhausted the whole way through. I guess that tells me I've been playing lazily all these years and just getting by. I'm excited to continue relearning how to play, despite how incredibly awkward it feels.
10.05.2025 03:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Haven't played table tennis in a couple of years, signed up for lessons at the local community center here. I thought that the hardest part would be finding my old form. After having me take a few shots, the instructor had me completely change how I swing. It felt like learning to write left-handed.

This is one of those things I always believed were theoretically true but practically infeasible. However, people are now posting tools to actually just do it on a normal desktop computer.
Definitely the worst part of everything happening is that it's making me want to apologize to George Lucas for spending decades thinking that the political storyline of Episode 1 was infantile, absurd, and lacking in any sort of relevance in the post-Cold War age.
10.04.2025 21:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Social situations are easier for me when 1) thereβs a set activity everyone is engaging in and 2) I am in charge. That sounds weird, but being the GM or being the host of a game day reduces my social anxiety by at least 50%.
People whoβve known me awhile might be nodding as they read all that.
Thereβs a game store in Vancouver with board game days. I havenβt gone because Iβve lost whatever muscle I used to control my social anxiety.
Using this convention to relearn how to sit with strangers again; only way for me to play board games again since I donβt have a friend group up here.
About my earlier post: I havenβt played any board games since leaving Austin two years ago. I havenβt played with strangers since BGGcon 2019. And I certainly havenβt taught people how to play Captains in that time.

05.02.2025 09:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's been 8 years since I last walked through the snow. I'd forgotten what a sensory experience it is. The bracing cold. The slow crunch underfoot. The pervasive quiet. The tingles of snow dust gently falling from a branch onto your face after that small, fat bird alights from a branch... magical.
05.02.2025 02:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Anyone who tries to justify Lake Michigan and Lake Huron being separate lakes but doesn't also argue that Georgian Bay should be one of the Great Lakes is intellectually bankrupt.
13.01.2025 01:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Instead, I'm going to throw more elevation into the mix and switch from walking to hiking. As much as I love walking along the seawall, that can only help me get to a normal baseline of activity. I need to start climbing steep hills/mountains to really make progress.
02.01.2025 03:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A downside of moving to Vancouver is I have absolutely no support network here. I'm genuinely terrified of injuring myself. If I fall off a bike and break my arms or legs, I'll have no assistance during my recovery for handling the tasks of daily life. So, I don't know how I can get over that hump.
02.01.2025 03:00 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Despite a disappointing summer, I doubled my average daily steps from 3k to 6k. Next year I will get that up to a 10k daily average. I just need to maintain discipline in the heat.
I totally chickened out on my cycling goal.
So how was my first year (9.5 months) in Vancouver?
I doubled my 2023 daily activity. I fell short of my goals, mainly because I slacked off in the summer. I guess I'm the opposite of most people: cold weather makes me want to go outside, warm weather to stay in.
