Local anti-LTN campaigner posted this picture of Lee High Rd (with its 3m wide pavements, no pavement parking, speed cameras/20mph limit & bus stop) in her attack on the Active Travel Strategy - forgetting it undermines her claim of "post-LTN 24/7 gRiDlOcK" on the same road 🤣

The best use I've seen of a leaf blower was by Hackney Council. Their street "sweeper" would walk the streets, blowing all the dirt and litter off the pavement & from between cars into the path of the road sweeping machine following behind..very efficient & thorough.

Since the LTN was introduced in mid-2020, NO2​ levels at that spot have fallen EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.
By 2023, it had dropped to 29.0 µg/m³, a 35% reduction.
More recent real-time data from May 2025 shows average hourly NO2​ levels at Wellmeadow/A205 remain low at 15.2 µg/m³ 🧵4/4.

Less traffic has led to cleaner air.
An air quality monitor at 290 Brownhill Rd (#L51) recorded an annual average Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) level of 44.9 µg/m³ in 2019, so above the UK's legal safety limit of 40 µg/m³, meaning the air was unhealthy *before* the LTN.🧵3/4

Some will argue this is because of post-COVID working from home trends. The data suggests not.

While national traffic on ‘A’ roads has almost fully recovered to pre-COVID levels (only -1.0% v 2019), the 14.4% drop here is significantly larger: a sustained local reduction. 🧵2/4

NEWLY RELEASED DfT data for 2024 shows that, contrary to some claims, A205 South Circular traffic has not "got worse" since Lewisham's LTN was introduced.

Average daily traffic has fallen: 23,997 in 2019 (pre-LTN) to 20,538 in 2024. A 14.4% reduction! 🧵1/4...

Yet another serious crash on the supposed 20mph Hither Green Lane - a convenient rat run through a residential neighborhood for drivers avoiding the South Circular. When will the you restrict through-traffic here?

Why am I not surprised that Lewisham's residual anti-LTNer, that would rather the focus was on improving bus services instead of LTNs, hasn't yet praised TfL for today's announcement about new and extended bus routes from Lewisham 🤔🙄

There is an information drop-in session between 16:00 and 19:00 at St Swithun's Church, Hither Green Lane, on 15 January, including details of work beyond the enabling phase.

Only about the 'enabling works' which takes place between 18 Nov '24 and 16 March '25 - clearing vegetation on embankment & between platform 4 & 5, relocation and removal of railway assets and survey work to make room for new structures - some of which will take place during a weekend line closure.
