Types of tickets

Bottom it says “advance single”

You’ll see this same ticket, that was a Super Off-Peak Single, has changed into an Advanced Single. (Second pic at the bottom). A ticket not valid for every time. Would be easy to get fined if on a diff train.

This means I can get any train on the Sunday and any route, providing it’s in the off-peak time.

So the latest train news is that LNER are apparently doing a “trial” for 2 years where they’re not doing returns.

So my tickets were as follows:

Off peak single from London to Leeds: £73.40

Off peak single from Leeds to London: £73.40

Total: £146.80

This is the problem with train ticketing nowadays. We're trying to bury the complexity on the websites instead of fundamental reform of ticketing.

Update on this BTW - LNER are trialling a system for 2 years where they don’t do returns - it’s why my boss said I need to get 2 singles. Well done guys, slow hand clap. So on top of this, apparently you can’t even buy a return!
