A thirsty Earth is making droughts more severe A warming atmosphere will soaking up moisture faster than it can be replaced by rising precipitation rates, exacerbating droughts even in places where rainfall remains constant.

A new study details how the atmosphere’s evaporative demand (AED) has made droughts 40% more severe across the globe over the past 40 years.
