A Severe Weather Outlook map for Sunday, August 03, 2025, shows a widespread area of "Slight Risk" (level 2) for severe weather across the Southern U.S., from Texas to the Carolinas and Florida. A more significant "Enhanced Risk" (level 3) is focused on the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, with a small "Moderate Risk" (level 4) zone within that area in the northern Texas Panhandle.

Hurricane Celia made landfall as a Category 4 near Aransas Pass, Texas. Storm surge reached 9 feet, and wind gusts well over 130 mph (some reportedly up to 180 mph) damaged or destroyed thousands of homes in the state. 15 people were killed.

"Abnormally dry conditions were improved over southwest Arkansas while much of central Texas had the drought intensities reduced due to the ongoing rains. Some areas of (South Central) Texas recorded enough rain where a multiple category improvement was made."
