Final Fantasy II game designer Akitoshi Kawazu says Minwu in (katakana: ミンウ) written in kanji is 呉明, and is based on Wu Qi - a Chinese military advisor and philosopher from the Warring States period. Minwu, a white mage, accompanies the player's party temporarily.
