To those interested in harvesting japanese knotweed. Great care must be taken to prevent the spread of this plant! A tiny bit of this invasive species can take over. This plant is bamboo on steroids. Collect materials carefully, make sure all materials that aren’t eaten are cooked to death!

This is winter-cress.

PNW foraging in recent weeks?

Fringed Willow-Herb: garden had tons, added it to soup.

Wavy Bittercress: Abundant in the disturbed woods nearby, also souped.

Japanese Knotweed: pie & sauté. When salted it tastes like pickled grape leaf!

Winter-cress: sampled on the trails. Great salad green!

Also gotta brag! This is dry display! 🙌 It’s been a little while since I’ve had a batch this awesome.

This is a Damon Point find. The tumble turned out glossy. It was 1 week each for the first three tumble steps then 3 weeks with sugar/polish for the finish.

I love their fuzzy necks so much!

I once got to visit my friends off grid cabin which had an extra extra long outdoor bathtub with a view of the woods. I didn’t want to leave.

Ugh, I used to be a cashier and I was stuck there with them. Worst part of the job, grumpy old people didn’t even come close. Nasty men who would say perverse things to me while I was stuck there checking out their stuff were thee worst.

April 5th national protests! I’ll be at the Portland march!

This week has been insane! 1.5 gallons of greens foraged this week and 6.5 gallons from our small city garden.

Year so far:
Forage: 6 gallons
Garden: 8.5 gallons

This weeks harvest? Broccoli, arugula, kale, hairy bitter cress, selfheal, lemon balm, mint, common nipplewort, and fringed willowherb.

I think it might be solid but maybe some interesting cross section patterns?

Trying one experiment with my mushroom growing set up. We have endless Himalayan blackberries around us. So if I kill the vines/leafs and use them as feed will it work well? We’ll see.

Bubbly textured brown rocks. One piece is larger than the other fairly uniform color, smooth texture.

Do any of my rock people know what this stuff is? Both chunks found along the Willamette river.
