It's so uncanny how Flint, MI is such a city of firsts. Birth of industrial unionism, first fair housing law, and, sadly, take over of local government by right-wing, neoliberal fascists.

Who is everyone? It's faculty and staff that should take collective action, not Admins who are culturally and institutionally not capable of doing so. Unions, AAUP should take the lead in the organizing that needs to happen before any action, and coordination of the actual action

The situation is dire, we all need to come together, take risks, and support one another.

Sure it does--I have union protections but I can't "legally" strike. That doesn't mean our faculty didn't take a strike vote during our contract negotiations. (close to 90percent of the membership voted for) and was read to face the consequences of actually striking.

I don't like this approach--we all face the prospect of administrators taking away our rights--whether the impetus comes from the federal government or within the institution. We need to organize national actions--like a week long faculty strike--addressing the threats to higher education.

No there should be a national day of action where all faculty strike. We need to put all administrators on notice. We're all in this together and punishing particular institutions doesn't address threat that we all face.

I find it strange that you don't mention perhaps the most analogous example to the Zohran situation, that of Sanders and the Dem establishment, in your example.

Many faculty on the big campus have the false impression that they are protected by their prestige, and ironically that makes them more vulnerable and less likely to band together.

Forget about the subtle race and class hate (outposts are on the frontier) but the big implication is that we are there to protect and sacrifice ourselves for the "main" campus. We get this attitude and this is why we unionized.

As someone who teaches at an "outpost" I know what the implication is-they think we are easily sacrificed. We realize this and it's why, in our case why we unionized.
