I don’t mean to be dramatic, but if West Virginia ever lost a national title game the way Houston lost that one, I’d almost certainly look to crawl in the nearest hole and never return.

Houston may or may not be the best team in the country this year. They were easily the toughest. And that was true way before tonight.

This is way less embarrassing than the many who want to get Huggs back on the horn.

I fully acknowledge this is copium, but under this AD, West Virginia also lost a really good women’s basketball coach after only one season … and replaced her with one that has proved to be every bit as good (and likely better).

DeVries is a truly excellent hire for Indiana. Easily, easily the best one they’ve made on paper in a long time. He’s smart, he’s dynamic, he will get players.

This is an absolute gut punch for West Virginia. Four coaches in four years. But at least you have an AD who clearly knows ball.

As a broken WVU alum, I am getting my enjoyment from two things:

(1) Refreshing social media for rumors/news of a coaching change

(2) Schadenfreude. Texas A&M being so geeked up that 80,000 people show up for “yell practice” … only to get their asses completely kicked … that’s the good stuff.

West Virginia has two fight songs. “Hail, West Virginia” — the one that probably comes to mind when most think of WVU — does not include the word “fight” in the lyrics. (To the surprise of exactly no one, “Fight Mountaineers” does.)

I mean, come on.

Ohio State may win the title and it’s still going to be hilarious to me that they went and spent a ton of NIL money on a guy a lot of people believed was the second best QB on Kansas State’s roster.
