As Mamdani nears victory, Democrats worry about national fallout The progressive candidate is on the cusp of a historic mayoral win. And that's adding to unease among Democrats looking for a way back to national power.

Absolutely wild how, in less than 10 years, we've watched large media companies go from attempting to convince people of their scrappy, Fourth Estate bona fides, to just nakedly crumbling into irrelevant sycophants for the rich.

it’s astounding how much misinformation about renewable energy is laundered by a media that claims to tell the truth about climate change

Big shout out to the @kde.org team on Plasma 6.5. It looks great, and I'm especially appreciating the KRunner fuzzy search updates. #Fedora #linux

The weirdest normalcy is watching us fall, slow-motion, into another dark age while more information than we could possibly consume in multiple lifetimes is available to us instantly. We democratized access to information, but never fully democratized how to think critically about that information.

Microsoft down? Major outage hits Azure, 365 and more - even Minecraft and Xbox affected A major Microsoft outage appears to hitting users across the world

Normally, topics related to my job are nowhere near the news, but it's really curious to have another outage from a major CSP (see also: recent AWS outage) in the span of a few days. Especially curious since AWS's outage was also, specifically, DNS-related:

I cannot emphasize enough how much "cost them a few pennies" is not the reason they won't do it. Even if you've made as much of your core stack as cloud-agnostic as possible, and you're effectively using just AWS hardware without their services, migrating to Azure or GCP is a massive undertaking.

Digital infrastructure is a lot like physical infrastructure in that most people don't even think about it until something actually goes wrong. And then, when it *does* go wrong, the public suddenly discovers how large, complex, and political the problems are, with no quick, armchair solutions.

I would argue this is because we are told to be proud of the bullshit, and that other countries are β€œjealous” of our bullshit, rather than being taught that we have a responsibility to our neighbors our, and our communities, to live and act as if that bullshit could become actual reality.

I mean, you're allowed to have sexual fantasies about being a sub to big daddy Trump wearing this outfit.

I just don't know how that relates to what we're talking about, and tbh that's a kink that you can enjoy on your own.

This is literally what I imagine you'd write if, in a back room, the corporate leaders were whispering to the corrupt justices: "Now...listen, write it with that legal mumbo jumbo so it looks legit. We need to shut down any suspicion of the level of influence our little...deal...is giving us."

Sonic’s story is literally about a mad villain turning creatures into slave robots against their will, and fighting back against that plight by using speed, wit, sarcasm, teamwork, and magical objects to free those creatures against overwhelming odds.

This Sonic is authentic as fuck.

I grew up super religious, now a secular Buddhist. I always tell people, the one thing that religion does very well is organize communal spaces and shared identity. I think that's why religion is so sticky in the first place, in spite of its many harms. Secular community still struggles with this.

Farmers Embracing Smart Agriculture
YouTube video by Classroom Europe Farmers Embracing Smart Agriculture

Nearly 8% of the people on our planet are farmers who produce more than a third of the world’s food on small plots of land...just an acre or two each. These farmers want to work, produce, feed their families, sell what’s left, and stay on their farms (cont.)

And, as an #exvangelical, I maintain that most people in the U.S. that have never been in that world have *no idea* how much the corruption of extremist nationalism has infiltrated so-called "Christian" thought. So if you use the generic term Christian, without specifying "what kind"...it's useless.

03.10.2025 14:09 β€” πŸ‘ 7    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

With apologies to C.S. Lewis fans, "Christian", as a term by itself, is mostly meaningless at this point. A Christian living in, say, Cologne, Germany that attends their local Catholic church for holidays would be utterly horrified by the beliefs of a staunch Southern Baptist Christian in Florida.
