But when I spotted the shop from a block and a half away, I seriously considered turning back. Things didn’t get better as I approached. The lavish decorations far exceeded what anyone would charitably call garish. Just looking through the window made me feel a little claustrophobic. But there were only so many leisure businesses in Bindrix Square, and Sweet Discoveries carried sugar puffs, which were Chilperia’s favorite. Besides, she loved a good over-the-top theme. Or at least, I hoped she did. It had been a while since we last caught up.”
