One par­ tic­ u­ lar form of the neighborhood is the gated community, a neighborhood encircled by gates and fences, often including security restric- tions for entry into the neighborhood. Gated communities can choose to imple- ment draconian restrictions to maintain their feelings of safety and privilege.27 Gating is only one example of this new form of social ordering that regulates and patrols the un­ housed and the urban poor.
