A grim day at Wigtown wetland D&G last weekend. 19 Whoopers on the lagoon out from the hide. A few Barnies on the merse being spooked by the local Kites. A fly past by the male Hen Harrier. A peregrine had a little disagreement and starred each other out on a drystone dyke.#birdingscotland

A few days in up at Oban last week at a conference but got time for a little birding along the harbour front. Tysies where in good form close to the harbour wall, whilst further out GND and RTD. An unexpected Puffin was the highlight, ss the Hoodies enjoyed Lunch. #birdingscotland

Lesser Scaup female at Auchenreoch Loch D&G this lunch time has generated some discussion. Also, great to see good numbers of Goosander fishing joined by a few Goldeneye @dgbirdnews.bsky.social ##birdingscotland ##rarebirdsuk @gavinchambers.bsky.social

Some of the birds at Pagham Harbour RSPB yesterday; a flight of Pintail & Brent geese (good numbers of juvs in family groups - easily told from adults by pale edged feathers on upper wings). Also a Peregrine perched on top of the very tall comms mast at the Ferry, there's often one up there...

Yesterday I sat & watched the changing light on Chichester Cathedral from Church Norton benches, Pagham Hbr RSPB as the tide rose & the birds in the harbour moved around...sounds of waders, Brent etc.
I must have spent many hours sitting here watching & listening over the years...wonderful place.

Lochmaben : Castle Loch ; Very little & any Bittern present a no-show this pm to 4pm. Apart from a flyover GWE, 3 GC Grebe, c50 Wigeon, c40 Tufted Duck, about half a dozen Goldeneye, c12 Mutes, 2 Goosander. Kirk Loch ; probably the same GWE fishing well i... see Blog.

Hen Harrier quartering

Couple of hours @rspbscotland.bsky.social Crook of Baldoon where we were greeted by this stunner of a male Hen Harrier quartering the pools. Tree Sparrows present and correct for another year plus large numbers of Fieldfare and Redwing. #birdingScotland #UKWildlife #birds @dgbirdnews.bsky.social

Moved down from Scotland, for a few days in Northumberland, before returning home. Caught up with the Black Scoter at Chiswick but no luck with the Bonaparte's on Holy Island. Great to see imm Glaucous Gull on trip, but generally quiet. #NEbirding

Well, made it in time to see this beauty at Musselburgh. Sweating over the last few weeks, it left it appears, at couple days later. A supporting cast of Velvet Scoter, RN Grebe, YBW and Pom Skua over a few days around Lothian. #birdingscotland @gavinchambers.bsky.social
