Whilst finishing checking the moth traps, a big surprise a nightjar (D&G) flushed from trees when leaving site #birdingscotland @gavinchambers.bsky.social

With, the weather being exceptionally warm for D&G, meaning the moth traps have been slowly producing some nice spp. Work traps have also produced a number of VC firsts recently. Garden list up to 215 despite all the ambient light. #teammoth

A few days away in Eastern Scotland birding, first to fife with a Little Gull, Corn Bunting. Up in the mountains a great view of a WTE and Red Grouse. A day at Girdle Ness caught with the Marsh Warbler and finding a Sab Gull. A bonus on the way back with the Western Sand at Maidens. #BirdingScotland

We’re very disappointed to hear today that plans for a new National Park in Galloway have been scrapped.

It’s been over 20 years since Scotland created its only two National Parks. Loch Lomond & The Trossachs and the Cairngorms have since evolved into important landscapes for both people and nature.

A third National Park in Scotland – in Galloway or elsewhere – would bring huge benefits for nature, communities and climate.

The Scottish Government must now step up and take urgent action to show it is committed to tackling the nature and climate crisis.

This news makes it even more vital the Natural Environment Bill drives the nature recovery we so desperately need.

An exceptional breezy day around Glenshee was better viewing the plants than birds, with most of the birds keeping their head down. Finally, a Red Grouse flew across the car park. But the day was saved when this cracking WTE drifted across unbothered by the wind #birdingscotland
