It will be interesting to see if this keeps up when the VRO is churning out a large number of observations of interstellar objects per year. Fun that he managed to slide in a reference to the Three Body Problem.

I donโ€™t understand at all. Respect the vote, and Iโ€™m a more centrist older guy. Thereโ€™s a need for the next generation to step up. Hereโ€™s the chance

It would also quiet down the Ackman-type donors. I can't guarantee that this is the case, but it would make sense to leak it like this if this were the strategy.

It's difficult to know what's going on behind the scenes. It could just be a kind of rope-a-dope to keep the focus off Harvard while the lawsuits proceed.

It's the NYPost. He seems to be doing well in the polls, this may help him in NYC - interesting to see what happens when so many are tacking to the middle, to have a more progressive candidate.

There was a preponderance of opinion among the faculty, the students, and the governing boards to go this route.

I don't suppose the traditional government outsourcing was done by asking for bids, then letting the contract via considerations like the lowest bidder.

Trump Administration Sends Harvard a List of Demands to Protect Federal Funds (Gift Article) The list was similar to one sent to Columbia University last month after the government canceled $400 million to the school. Harvard may have $9 billion on the line.

Here's the full quote I gave to the @nytimes.com about Trump's "demands" on Harvard:
"The demands on Harvard are authoritarian extortion, not serious policy goals, and not what one would imagine seeing in a democratic country. Harvard should reject them out of hand."

A sell off like this isn't a 'tantrum', but the use of that word does reveal a certain mindset.

I just found out that the Princeton particle physics umbrella grant was 'suspended' by the Dept. of Energy. They don't know why or how the university might resolve it.

The timescale is the most daunting. How to keep people in the field is a challenge. Also a minor nit-pick with the article, it was jarring to see CERN written as Cern. The author needs a good copy editor.

2/2. or unresolved tension, much like the auditory illusion where a tone seems to continually ascend or descend despite actually looping back on itself; it's often compared to the visual illusion of a barber pole where the stripes seem to always be moving upwards.
