I Am Autistic - Reframing Autism

"Just remember, your organic Autistic ways of socialising, communicating, thinking and processing are not disordered or defective or broken; they are just different. You are not broken, you are a wonderful, whole, Autistic person." At Reframing Autism:

Age is a tricky one. It could be simply that - as a minority and on average - autistic folk take a while longer to find someone who gets them to settle down with and have kids.

23.09.2025 13:28 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

5) So I am grumbly, these studies looking for a link make no mention of whether the families are autistic families. Having autistic folk in charge of this research would have avoided this obvious oversight.

It may be that a choice of pain relief accounts for the American study that found a little more acetaminophen in the cord plasma of mothers of autistic children (Ji et al., 2020).

Not taking the sensory and pain needs of the mums into account seems like a glaring mistake.
(5/6)

23.09.2025 13:24 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

3) Smaller studies in Europe (Avella-Garcia, 2016; Leppert, 2019; Liew, 2016) have a slim link between paracetamol and autism, but none say in which direction.

So 4) It might be that autistic mums have a greater pain burden when autistic hypermobility meets pregnancy hypermobility. (4/6)

23.09.2025 13:24 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

2) The big study (Ahlqvist et al, 2024) and the one that looked at sibling (Ahlquist, 2024b) found no link. This sibling study without a link to paracetamol is particularly important because autism is genetic. (3/6)

23.09.2025 13:24 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

So
1) There are not many solid studies on autism & paracetamol (Prada et al., 2025). Making any pronouncement ferments worry and fear.. and makes my cynical side wonder who is benefiting from this grift.

Acetaminophen & autism. Some thoughts as I read the research.
Iโ€™m a just ed researcher, I worry about how autism is talked about.
Going through the stats to work out what Trump was on about is particularly disheartening; itโ€™s all about risk, as if autism were a disease.

OpenAI Has a Fix For Hallucinations, But You Really Won't Like It OpenAI's latest research paper diagnoses exactly why ChatGPT and other large language models can make things up โ€“ known in the world of artificial intelligence as "hallucination".

Seems like AI - like many of us - has been bullied into being unable to say โ€œI donโ€™t knowโ€

Came across my first painted roundabout yesterday. It caused 3 thoughts
1) I feel odd about driving over our flag
2) You could have done it straight you divots
3) Didnโ€™t St Gโ€™s mum come from Gaza?

Probably not the message intended. 3/10 poor protest.

Communication is a human rightโ€”right? On Sunday, Sept 14, I'll be moderating a panel of four autistic nonspeakers, along with Dr. Vikram Jaswal, discussing how transformative it is when people can access communication that works for them:

Older autistic people need more help after years of misdiagnosis, review finds Research estimates 90% of Britons over 50 with autism arenโ€™t getting right treatment and face added difficulties

A review found that 90% of autistic people aged over 50 in Britain are either undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, and the same is likely true in other countries. Our middle-aged & older autistic people deserve proper supports NOW after a lifetime without accommodations.
