Age is a tricky one. It could be simply that - as a minority and on average - autistic folk take a while longer to find someone who gets them to settle down with and have kids.

23.09.2025 13:28 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

5) So I am grumbly, these studies looking for a link make no mention of whether the families are autistic families. Having autistic folk in charge of this research would have avoided this obvious oversight.
(6/6)

23.09.2025 13:24 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

It may be that a choice of pain relief accounts for the American study that found a little more acetaminophen in the cord plasma of mothers of autistic children (Ji et al., 2020).

Not taking the sensory and pain needs of the mums into account seems like a glaring mistake.
(5/6)

23.09.2025 13:24 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

3) Smaller studies in Europe (Avella-Garcia, 2016; Leppert, 2019; Liew, 2016) have a slim link between paracetamol and autism, but none say in which direction.

So 4) It might be that autistic mums have a greater pain burden when autistic hypermobility meets pregnancy hypermobility. (4/6)

23.09.2025 13:24 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

2) The big study (Ahlqvist et al, 2024) and the one that looked at sibling (Ahlquist, 2024b) found no link. This sibling study without a link to paracetamol is particularly important because autism is genetic. (3/6)

23.09.2025 13:24 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

So
1) There are not many solid studies on autism & paracetamol (Prada et al., 2025). Making any pronouncement ferments worry and fear.. and makes my cynical side wonder who is benefiting from this grift.

Acetaminophen & autism. Some thoughts as I read the research.
I’m a just ed researcher, I worry about how autism is talked about.
Going through the stats to work out what Trump was on about is particularly disheartening; it’s all about risk, as if autism were a disease.
