Both morally disturbing, and terrible strategic thinking.

"First they came for the Communists, and I supported that because I thought this is our way out of this."

Everybody has an interest in standing up for civil rights and shoring up the systems that protect minority groups.

I think it's pretty well established that political killings are disproportionately carried out by conservatives, so I would have expected conservatives to be more approving of them. I found it surprising and somewhat reassuring that most conservatives seem not to.

I did read it closely, yes. I'm not sure I agree with the "slim" characterization. 26% of liberals age 18-44 stating that violence to achieve political goals can sometimes be justified was a surprisingly high number to me. I more surprised that the corresponding number for conservatives was lower.

I mean, I don't have any incentive to be disingenuous about this. I'm a Democrat and I was utterly surprised to see this because it is so different from my priors.

What Americans really think about political violence | YouGov Most Americans say political violence is never justified, but younger and more liberal Americans are more likely to say it can be.

What do you make of this YouGov survey that appears to show liberals as more likely to believe political violence can be justified? JD Vance creeps me out for sure, but I was a little bit surprised to see some support in for the proposition.

Charlie Kirk called me a β€˜lunatic’ and a β€˜prostitute’ and demanded I be deported.

Nothing, *nothing*, justifies killing him, or robbing his kids of their dad.

We don’t know the identity or motive of the shooter but murder can *never* be the response to political disagreements.

E.g. I don't believe that Trump has any independent interest at all in getting rid of women's suffrage, or in establishing state funding for evangelical christianity, or in formally institutionalizing the political influence of tech billionaires.

He is also surrounded by people far more extreme. Trump may be far right compared to what is normal, but he's a centrist compared to Vance, Hegseth, Bondi, Miller, Vought.

They are not restraining him, like his cabinet did (to some extent) in his first term. If anything, he is restraining them.

Yep. Since he's unpopular he has an incentive to move much faster to mess with elections and suppress free speech! This administration, Trump is a moderating influence.

Or even simpler to make my feed a mix of different custom feeds with weights that I can set.

I think it would be nice to have continuous adjustment of what is in my feed. E.g. be able to shift continuously between content from inside and outside my network.

This could be a baked in feature or it could be an optional attribute of a custom feed to have some parameters the user can adjust.

US armed forces: Perhaps the most highly-functioning dysfunctional bureaucracy in the history of the world.

Lol I've never served, so I am sure I don't understand the full depths... but I guess I've read enough reddit comments from folks in the military and the guard to have some distant sense of how stuff goes down.

"We have orders to get in the field immediately"
"Sure think sir, what do they need us to haul?"
"Nothing... they just want us... in the field. Where do you guys wanna go?"

Perhaps these folks: dc.ng.mil/Components/U...

I don't have any good sources on it, but they were described as DC guard in some of the articles that had that or similar videos.

I think the vehicles in that video were part of a DC guard unit ... but they really should let the WVNG do some sightseeing too.

LOL "she’s not guided entirely by loyalties to the president, but external business interests" --- IMAGINE someone in the Trump administration, guided by EXTERNAL BUSINESS INTERESTS.

It is definitely that which is turning them against her, and not the fact that she keeps talking about Epstein.

20.08.2025 15:53 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

No one can deny the reality of climate change.

Deniers instead push stupid alternative stories about how the cause is anything but fossil fuels.

It's not that we *want* to fill the air and water with poison, it's just a lot of this stuff really needs to be studied first before we make those decisions {Slashes environmental health funding}.

Sure, but Harvard is probably not the marginal Ivy when it comes to likelihood of making a deal with Trump. Dartmouth, Penn, or Cornell is. (And Columbia.)

Those schools are less insulated. And any Ivy that makes a deal will already have risked their status... dropping rankings would confirm it.

01.06.2025 03:18 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

In that case target the message at guidance counselors at highly-ranked high schools. (Likely a receptive audience!) University administrators are SO paranoid about enrollments and rankings right now. A feeder school boycott of Ivy League Collaborator U would devastate the undergrad class rankings.
