Someone needs to take a risk. Take a player on. We need to create gaps in their block.

Gutted for Leoni but how many minutes would he have played between now and Jan?

Won’t be many but those minutes need to be filled to prevent overloading an aging (albeit class) Virg and fragile Ibou and fragile Jomez.

I agree that he shouldn’t be used in any game of any significance.

I would absolutely use him as much as possible to lighten the load on the other 3 senior CBs though as often as possible. 10 minutes here, cup game there.

I’d also hate to lose Gravenberch from DM to play CB.

I missed your previous post but I totally agree.

No stats to back this up but in my view, he’s a better CB than DM.

We also have Danns. I rate that kid. He could make an appearance too although unlikely.

I agree with you that Gakpo starting LW make sense. He is so good defensively.

I also have no idea what Slot will do.

I’d be of a mind to start Isak and bring Chiesa on when he hits the red zone.

Rio can come on for Gakpo if he’s still struggling with form.

I’ll be honest. It’s not the stats. It’s the eye test. Most of us watching prefer the look of Chiesa. In my eyes he is the superior technical player.

Perhaps not tactically and not physically but that’s harder to judge.

Gakpo’s numbers last year were very good. But stats need context.

He can play anywhere across the front three and have an impact. He looked good on the left last night once the subs had all been made.

I was actively trying to avoid mentioning Gakpo.

I’ll be honest, I think Chiesa is just a better player. Gakpo scored a lot last season but without his goals, he looks a little out of sorts with the new players.

Rio is exciting but Chiesa is just worth more minutes in general.

For no reason whatsoever, I have absolutely found myself as a huge Chiesa fan.

Even before he joined.

I am also a Danns fan in exactly the same manner.

I really want both players to succeed at Liverpool.

The last player I was a fan of like this… Curtis Jones.

My biggest takeaways from last night:

1. Virgil is the greatest. He is so dominant. No one in the squad can replace him.
2. Chiesa should be first in line to cover Salah during Afcon. Not Frimpong.

Yes. Yes. And yes.

The only issue is that he’d have started against Palace. Isak looked good but not fully match ready last night.

Now we either have to rush Isak into the starting lineup or play Chiesa. It’s not the worst set of solutions but it’s forced onto us.

Me too. But to be honest, I’d just like to see him play more. He is good enough and on last night’s showing, he is fit enough too.

He seems to be happy to be part of the squad even if not starting every week.

That’s a good player to have!

Agreed. Not just me that is confused by Frimpong then? The midfield isn’t controlling game but that’s to be expected. Centre backs doing well but no one can replace Virg.

He’s settling in. He played his best game last night. Deserved assists but others missed gilt edged chances!

He’s taking up positions that are causing problems. He’s being closed down before he can shoot. I hope he’ll speed up a bit and team mates will move off him more intuitively around the box.

I’m finding hard not to think about Australia. Same problems seem to be cropping up there though.

I agree in Gakpo. He still has a place and a role within the squad buy games like yesterday went away from him.

In terms of formation, I also agree that systems will flick depending whether we’re in/out of possession.

Salah is becoming isolated out wide in the current system. Gakpo isn’t therefore arriving at the back post to score any chances.

Without goals, Gakpo struggles to contribute.
