Remembering Private Edmund Griffiths 2nd Battalion East Lancashire Regiment, killed on this day in 1914. He was a member of a burial party during a Christmas truce. He was shot in the head by a German sniper as he returned to the trenches. He was born in Blackburn, Lancashire in 1892.

This is a bit frivolous but I couldn't resist it. This clip was used in an episode of Are You Being Served? but was speeded up. It was used as part of a "This Is Your Life" for Young Mr Grace who said: "We didn't hang about in those days"

Remembering 2nd Lt Noel Everard Evans, Royal Field Artillery. He was wounded on the 4th November 1918 when a shell burst outside the dugout where he was standing. He died of his wounds on the 11th November 1918. His grandfather Major Everard Hutton survived the Charge Of The Light Brigade.

I used to be a "Son Of The Desert" and went to various conventions around the country. I went to a centenary convention in Blackpool 1990. I met Lord Delfont & Billy Marsh who were responsible for the Laurel & Hardy British Tours in the 1950's.

"He doesn't want me, he wants the other monkey. YOU!!"

Easy, it's all downhill from there!!

Can't believe this is 39 years ago. I cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats in 1985. Took 16 days.

Just sorting some stuff out & came across an original script from Kojak. The episode is "The Goodluck Bomber". The dealer was settling an estate in Los Angeles.

Thanks for adding me Chris. My modest contribution is mainly concerning the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. For the last 8 or so years I have been compiling a roll of honour for the battalion. I have completed 4 volumes covering the 1st Battalion. I am about 2 thirds through SDGW volume 28.

A great pleasure today to provide the story of 8541, Pte Charles Garrod, 2nd Suffolk, to his grandson. Pte Garrod was captured at Le Cateau on the 26 August 1914. We also helped trace the grandson's father's details - he was also taken PoW in WW2 serving with the Rifle Brigade.

Thanks for this list. I will investigate further.

I recently took members of the North Wales branch of the Western Front Association on a tour of Great War graves in Rhyl Town Cemetery, including the grave of Harry Weale VC. . Weather was kind to us. Very well received & followed by a drink or 2 at a local seafront bar.

Just watched him on Film Four. The Man In The White Suit that was partly filmed in Burnley, birthplace of Harry Palmer.
