10.01.2025 11:17 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Five soldiers in British Army uniform, each one is holding a bicycle and behind them stand another four soldiers. In the distance are some railway trucks on a track. This was at Belton Park Army camp in Early 1915.
A group of our 8th Bn. West Riding lads joined the 11 DCC at Belton Park before serving at #Gallipoli and they had varying fortunes in the war:

Remembering Private Edmund Griffiths 2nd Battalion East Lancashire Regiment, killed on this day in 1914. He was a member of a burial party during a Christmas truce. He was shot in the head by a German sniper as he returned to the trenches. He was born in Blackburn, Lancashire in 1892.
25.12.2024 13:20 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Merry Christmas to all my followers. As Tiny Tim Scratchit would say; "God Bless Us Everyone"
25.12.2024 07:21 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A head and shoulders portrait from a newspaper, of a soldier from WW1. He is wearing a forage style cap.
A dark coloured wooden board with a curved top and the names of nine men who died in WW1, written in gold paint. The words read: In Honoured memory European War 1914-18. Tom Critchison Willie Waugh Ellis Taylor Arhur Rhodes Clifford Wild Herbert Denison George Lord Jack Coles Willie Coles Eternal Glory to those that sleep.
So close to Christmas and I'd like to think about all postal workers & delivery agents out there in all weathers, making sure we receive the things we need.
Merry Christmas!
Here's a post from 4 years ago, Pte. Arthur Rhodes, a Keighley postman who died in WW1:

This is a bit frivolous but I couldn't resist it. This clip was used in an episode of Are You Being Served? but was speeded up. It was used as part of a "This Is Your Life" for Young Mr Grace who said: "We didn't hang about in those days"
13.12.2024 21:17 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0As well as the 4 volumes about the 1st Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers, try the 4 volumes covering the 1,000 men of the 2nd Battalion. 11.11.2024 18:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Remembering 2nd Lt Noel Everard Evans, Royal Field Artillery. He was wounded on the 4th November 1918 when a shell burst outside the dugout where he was standing. He died of his wounds on the 11th November 1918. His grandfather Major Everard Hutton survived the Charge Of The Light Brigade.

29.08.2024 09:45 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Just sorting some stuff out & came across an original script from Kojak. The episode is "The Goodluck Bomber". The dealer was settling an estate in Los Angeles.
27.08.2024 20:54 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Thanks for adding me Chris. My modest contribution is mainly concerning the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. For the last 8 or so years I have been compiling a roll of honour for the battalion. I have completed 4 volumes covering the 1st Battalion. I am about 2 thirds through SDGW volume 28.

Medal index card for Private Garrod
A great pleasure today to provide the story of 8541, Pte Charles Garrod, 2nd Suffolk, to his grandson. Pte Garrod was captured at Le Cateau on the 26 August 1914. We also helped trace the grandson's father's details - he was also taken PoW in WW2 serving with the Rifle Brigade.
