aboud's heart is broken, and so is mine. how do you recover from so much loss? how do you try to rebuild your life and heal after the violence and cruelty you have faced? especially when palestine is still not free?

the ceasefire does not mean the work is done for us to support a free palestine.

aboud managed to survive and get back to his parents and siblings, who are also still alive. but when they made it back to their village, they were faced by the complete obliteration of their neighborhood. their house, their neighbor's houses - all bombed to rubble

can you imagine thinking that some sense of safety is so close - not a full sense of safety, not while palestine is still under israeli occupation and apartheid, but SOME relief - and then being killed by this brutality? can you imagine losing your friends to it on a day that should be happy?

he & his friends were trying to make it back to their village, where they were displaced from over a year ago because israel destroyed it.

four of his friends were killed by israel the day of the ceasefire. their names were ashraf, amr, nidal, and diaa, and they were just trying to get home.

the morning of the ceasefire should have been one of joy and hope for my friend aboud in gaza. instead, in the hours leading up to it (saturday night for me), he was sending me recordings of him and his friends being shelled and shot at by israeli soldiers

aboud, his parents, and his four siblings have lost so much - their home, their schools and universities, their livelihoods, their health - and they need us to keep supporting them in rebuilding their lives, because our countries have been complicit in this genocide that is still ongoing

the genocide did not begin on october 7, 2023, and it will not end until palestine is truly free, until palestinians are same from the hunger & disease & violence that these last 15 months have wroughtuntil israel ends its colonial occupation not only of gaza but of all of 1948 palestine

I am sharing a new Palestinian account every day and today is Asmaa. Asmaa has three children, Anas, Sara and Adam. Adam who is 3 has Cornelia de Lange Syndrome which requires many specialized therapies he has not been receiving. The family’s home was destroyed and they are living in a tent.
