Pleased to hear Norfolk County Council elections will go ahead in 2026. Iโve repeatedly called for certainty after the previous postponement.
On the new Norfolk & Suffolk Mayoral post, itโs right we take the time to get it correct rather than rush and waste public money.

9/10 After 13 months of campaigning, I welcome the steps taken on inheritance tax for farmers. But the forestalling clause still traps families who may not have five or seven years to wait: including those who are terminally ill.

7/10 Growth underpins everything. World-class public services require an economy able to pay for them. That means reducing regulatory burdens especially in sectors where Britain has competitive edge. Finance is weighed down by layers of regulation that restrict innovation.

6/10 Welfare reform must also return to its original purpose: helping people rebuild their lives and move back into work. A humane system should empower people, not trap them in complexity, stigma and delay. Early intervention is essential.

5/10 We need genuine innovation in prevention and rehabilitation, and practical collaboration with the private sector to expand capacity and cut waiting lists. Not ideological outsourcing, but partnership that strengthens the NHS.

4/10 The NHS cannot remain sustainable without real reform. Too much of the system has been shaped almost exclusively around elderly care. Younger people facing serious mental health conditions &over-50s with obesity & musculoskeletal disorders cannot be left behind.

3/10 And the Chancellorโs new budgetary headroom? Much of it relies on assumptions that are far from guaranteed: some even conflict with positions taken by other departments, particularly on immigration.

2/10 If your goal is to cut household costs, every policy must be judged on its real-world impact. Itโs easy to say โtax the supermarketsโ, but most operate on margins just under 5%. Hit them, and you hit the weekly shop.

I donโt think you understand how insulting the whataboutery towards those facing political persecution is.
To answer your question: Brexit isnโt working and will not work. I want a closer relationship with our largest trading partner.
Comparing Brexit with the rounding up of people by the Chinese Communist Party in Hong Kong and mainland China is insulting to people like Chloe.
Brexit is not the same as someone having a bounty on their head or having the fear they may be black bagged at any time.
Standing up for freedom matters.
Met Chloe Cheung from the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong to discuss how the UK can better protect Hongkongers from political persecution. Her testimony on fleeing repression was powerful. We must defend free expression.

Norfolk deserves world-class NHS dentistry.
Access is rising, but thereโs more to do. After securing a ministerial visit to the proposed dental school, I pressed Ministers again this week to back UEAโs case and get this school approved. Letโs get it done.
