113 st bike lane is 95 percent rideable to Kingsway road.

All intersections are painted. There is a small gap in the MUP near the Lions centre.

And today I learned that in 1962 the BBC let Jaquetta Hawkes imagine the archaeology of apocalyptic Britain. As a short film πŸ‘€10/10 Will weird your day youtu.be/c8yEIe69M4k?...

For the sake of the country, Conrad Black must stuff his skivvies with ground beef and hurl himself into a pit of hungry weasels.

Just a little PSA for those who got drunken tattoos in Croatia who don't want an awkward moment down the road where someone says, "Hey dipshit. Why the hell do you have a Nazi tattoo?"

25.10.2025 21:09 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm not sure to what degree their tattoo culture overlaps their subculture that thinks the 1940s was a pretty sweet deal nowadays, but for a while that Venn diagram was pretty circular.

Croatia has struggled with that ever since. To the point where Croatia's President stormed out of the 25th anniversary memorial of Operation Flash, because a number of invitees had shown up sporting the emblem of a far right paramilitary unit whose slogan was one the UstaΕ‘e coined.

During that whole first phase of the disintegration of Yugoslavia which led to Croatia becoming independent, a whole bunch weird stuff bubbled right up from the UstaΕ‘e, who ran Croatia as a puppet of Nazi Germany, and were enthusiastic participants in the Holocaust.

But yeah, if you were young, unworldly and drunk and let someone tattoo you in Croatia in the 2000s, you've probably just made a poor life choice. And if you don't know what that is they put on you, it might be a good idea to figure it out.

25.10.2025 21:06 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I was wondering how the hell you accidentally get a Nazi tattoo and then I heard it was in Croatia and suddenly it made sense.

(Not figuring it out or doing anything about it in the intervening years is definitely a choice though.)

And yeah, I love HSR, but a regular train that is just quick could be up and running reasonably quickly and without having to acquire a whole bunch of land. Like the old Dayliner service used to pull this off on the extant tracks (it just used Budd RDC's and was infrequent).

And yeah, a price that's not three times that of flying (though I would be a sucker for paying a bit extra for some kind of comfy seat upgrade). And there we go: I am no longer uttering profanities at the prospect of going to Calgary. Because that would absolutely beat the heck out of driving.

24.10.2025 01:23 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

And ideally core to core, with good linkages to each city's transit (especially an LRT connection), and not like Edmonton's current VIA station that has no connection to absolutely anything and is somehow terrible to walk to despite being adjacent to a walkable neighbourhood.

And the equipment would have to be reasonably comfortable to ride and not surplus Budd RDC "skunks". Give people a bit of space, decent seat recline, and reasonable comfort and a quiet ride. Some basic on board food and drink services would be excellent.

24.10.2025 01:23 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

By not sucking I mean things like it not constantly being stuck behind a slow freight resulting in delay after delay after delay. And there would have to be at least a few trains each way per day.

24.10.2025 01:23 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

High speed would be great, but if it were just as fast as driving and didn't suck, it would capture my ridership 100% of the time. I would become open to going to Calgary just for fun.

You know, I love high speed rail, but if there was just a train running between Edmonton and Calgary, and it didn't suck, I would actually not hate going to Calgary. 1/?
