We might be seeing something similar with the departure of 7/11, which rolled up the last of their neighborhood locations in the core back in 2021 to focus on gas bar locations. It will be interesting to see how that turns out.

The big American franchise fast food chains similarly fled. There’s three Subways left, no McDonald’s, no Taco Bell, one Wendy’s at the very edge just outside. The once ubiquitous Tim Hortons has also become rare. The result: diversification.

Starbucks and Second Cup used to be on pretty much every corner of our downtown, but now they’ve closed most of their locations to concentrate on suburban drive through locations and now we have an actual coffee scene.

Noodle Feast on the south side does a great chili oil Biang Biang noodle. I also really like the chili oil and minced pork ones. We've ordered from them three times in rather short order. The last time was when I had to go to Big Al's Aquariums and my other half said, "It's next to Noodle Feast!"

Just like Hands, my first attempt is a bit off. 😅

And now, I am in the process of mixing up a batch of dough to try making biang biang hand-pulled noodles with chili oil myself.
