Map of proposed bike lanes on Greenpoint Av
And protected bike lanes on Greenpoint Av would connect with @nbkta.bsky.social's own plans for Brooklyn's section of Greenpoint Av.
The short jaunt over Newtown Creek is made far longer by infrequent buses and streets that favor speeding trucks over people. We can fix this.

Photo background is a chaotic Morgan Avenue as seen from the middle of the street. Bike lanes on both sides of the street are hidden under illegally parked trucks, the sidewalk is littered with vehicles and a turning tractor trailer is stopping traffic in both directions.
Overlayed on the photo is a bar graph showing the most dangerous trucking corridors in New York City. This data is from NYC DOTโs Freight Mobility unit and is measuring the number of people killed or seriously injured by trucks per mile (KSI).
#8 is Knickerbocker Avenue at 2.6 KSI
#7 is Croton Avenue at 2.63 KSI
#6 is 57th Street at 2.94 KSI
#5 is 125th Street 3.4 KSI
#4 is Henry Hudson Parkway at 3.4 KSI
#3 is Houston St at 3.41 KSI
#2 is 138th Street at 3.83 KSI
#1 is Morgan Avenue at 4.5 KSI
Above the graph white text with a red background reads โDOT declares Morgan Avenue most dangerous truck route in New York City!โ
Below the graph, white text reads โpeople killed or seriously injured by trucks per mileโ

In Appedix B they identify Morgan Avenue as the most dangerous trucking corridor in the entire city. This is a direct result of their refusal to #MakeMorganSafe!

One of the things weโre counting on the street today is the big number of concrete spills that make the painted bike lane dangerous and unusable. This cyclist is forced to ride in traffic vs navigating the concrete. We need a protected bike lane on Morgan Ave.

We also counted copious concrete spills on nearly every block, which disorient cyclists biking down Morgan and represent a huge repair expense for taxpayers. This cement was (ominously) spilled right on top of the icon of a cyclist here at Grand Ave.

At todayโs street safety walkthrough of Morgan Ave we did a bollard census to see whose safety counts most. We asked โif the painted #bikeNYC lane is safe, why do all the sidewalk trees and hydrants have steel bollards?โ #makemorgansafe

Daylighting is something NYers are asking for too โ with over 19 community boards representing nearly 3M people now having passed resolutions supporting universal daylighting. @nycmayor.bsky.social and @nycdot.bsky.social should join Paris and CA and make NYC a world leader on this issue.
