01.04.2025 10:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Amidst the sweeping existential horrors right now (to which we all have an obligation to recognise and respond to accordingly) I am taking some joy in being involved in the kind of work which allows me- in explaining how social constructs work- to write the words βfrogs donβt know itβs Tuesdayβ.
01.04.2025 10:48 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Section of a BBC article with the phrase βunderage womenβ underlined
Quick question- whatβs the BBC doing using an insidious and misleading phrase like βunderage womenβ to talk about inappropriate behaviour with young girls?
You canβt be a woman and be underage. This kind of language deliberately takes the gut punch out of calling a child a child. This isnβt okay.
Hey there! How established should you be for something like this? Is it predominantly for newcomers to the format?
27.01.2025 15:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If youβre not afraid of getting canceled, you fucking coward, why didnβt you let them print your name?
14.01.2025 08:05 β π 12828 π 2161 π¬ 380 π 565I use the word βendorsementβ very deliberately here. There is no neutral party in the arena of human rights- you are either in support of them or against them- and platforming the voices of those against them makes you complicit.
11.01.2025 16:35 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My cousin and their partner wrote an important letter today to @newstatesman.com about their unacceptable endorsement of anti-trans rhetoric. Iβm very proud of the two of them for speaking up and eternally frustrated that we are still fighting these battles in 2025. #lgbtq #humanrights #newstatesman

Dr Sue Westwood (University of York) and Professor Trish Hafford-Letchfield (University of Strathclyde) are conducting research on the support needs of older LGBTQ+ Londoners. [1/3]
" (B) A person commits the offense of exhibiting a harmful performance to a minor if, with or without consideration and knowing the character or content of the performance, he allows a minor to view a live performance which is harmful to minors. For purposes of this subsection, allowing a minor to view a drag show, as defined in Section 6-1-200, is harmful to minors and punishable pursuant to this section."
One day after effectively banning porn in the state, SC uses the same "harmful to minors" argument to make it a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, to allow someone under 18 to view a drag show.
It's called "The Defense of Children's Innocence Act"

It should absolutely be illegal for companies like YouTube to bombard you with ads for weight loss pills. It is exploitative and cruel and we have to be more vocal about our right to not be passively absorbing these adverts for several hours a day. We cannot allow this to become normal.
03.01.2025 14:32 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβve had the good fortune in my life to not struggle with being overweight. That doesnβt mean that I havenβt obsessed over my weight for much of my adolescence and adult life. It doesnβt meant I havenβt watched loved ones suffer with- and almost lost a few to- debilitating eating disorders.
03.01.2025 14:32 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Since itβs all Iβve been getting on YouTube for the past couple of weeks, I have something not-so-radical to sayβ¦
Weight loss ads should be illegal. Weight loss culture is dangerous and insidious and does little to help the health and wellbeing of the average person.
Thank you so much for this! Appreciate the support βΊοΈ

18.12.2024 13:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It does feel painfully rare at the moment. It's a bad time of year for this kind of work, and I don't regret my choices, but wow. It sure is tough out there for anyone who is a fan of being alive and having groceries money

Thoughts and feedback so very welcome- it is always exciting to get to share this work with other LGBTQ+ academics!
I'd like to share one of my greater achievements this year- the Queer Justice Index.
Myself and @gary-munnelly.bsky.social created a measure of the relationship between political corruption and LGBTQ+ inequality, through data collected by @ilgaeurope.bsky.social + @anticorruption.bsky.social.

It's wonderful to see someone articulate an issue which is so prevalent in so many "LGBTQ+" organisations. Many cis white gay men refuse to acknowledge the power and privilege they have access to and thus believe they are immune from abusing it. Thank you for explaining this so effectively.

Screenshot of an email submission to a literary agent which reads as follows: βDear [], I am looking for representation for my non-fiction book Queer Humans, which explores the narratives of gender and sexuality diverse people from countries across the globe. Based on field research conducted between 2019-2023 in the USA, Japan, Indonesia, Turkey, South Africa, Lesotho and the wider seafaring community, Queer Humans seeks to demonstrate the interconnected nature of gender and sexuality diverse cultures around the world. Between first-person accounts of gender and sexuality history and academic contextualisation, Queer Humans grounds itself in conversations around colonialism, transnationalism, globalisation, intersectionality, queer theory, kinship and body politics. Queer Humans is written in a semi-formal tone, employing both academic insights and perspectives from my own lived experience, intended to make the subject matter more empathetic and personable.β
Yesterday I finally did something Iβve wanted to do for years- I submitted my book proposal to an agent.
The /Queer podcast has been my greatest love and passion project for 5 years now and I am so excited to go even further with the platforming of these stories.
Keep fingers crossed for me β€οΈπ€π»
