Why I Give My Books Away For Free In 2015, after the release of my first book with Burrow Press, a small press based out of Orlando, Florida, I was invited to give a reading at a public library. The book I’d always imagined I could…

I’ve Made Two International Moves. My New Countries Took Something Very Simple From Me. I used to have four names. Now, I'm not so sure.

My essay on how I lost half my name when I immigrated is up on @slate.com and Stephen Miller loses another hair every time you click on it. So click on it. slate.com/life/2025/10...

I moved to New York in 1992 and then the winter of 1993 was the worst in 50 years*. People said if I could make it through I would be a real New Yorker. Now I moved to Sevilla and it’s the worst summer in history. People say if I can make it through I’ll be a real Sevillano. I don’t like this.

Started reading Don Quixote but got depressed when I found out he was supposed to be 50 years old. Does anyone know how old Moby Dick was supposed to be?

It's nice once again living in a country in which my last name doesn't mark me as an other. There are streets named Garcia, ice-cream shops named Garcia, bars named Garcia, fashion stores named Garcia, and even a chain of hat stores named Garcia. None are "ethnic," they're just what they are.

My encounters with the King and other Spaniards My early experiences with Spaniards never made me think I’d one day move here.

Meeting the King of Spain didn't quite prepare me for my move to this country

Goodbye MAGA, hola EspaΓ±a! And just like that, our journey away from MAGA USA to Spain had begun.

I self-deported my Mexican ass all the way to Spain. And I brought a German with me for good measure. introvert.nyc/2025/03/03/g...

Hitler comes back to life. He is greeted by a jackbooted mob with some sort of stiff-armed salute, nobody knows what to call it, maybe a Roman salute?

5 Books to Read About Artists Under Nazism How do artists function under tyranny?

In 2016 I wrote this short article about how artists dealt with fascism in the '30s (spoiler alert: not always honorably!). I worried then that I might have been a bit histrionic. I don't feel that way today.
