I felt like the story depicts Schwarzwald as being Correct in his knowledge but Incredibly, Dangerously Wrong about what to do with it.

Though I'll admit, I have a fondness for the show. And I really like Schwarzwald's theme song, Stoning.

Oh I agree, I'm talking about something that happened way back when during The Great Leap Forward.

It didn't end well. In no small part because making your laborers try and fail to produce steel means... they're not Farming. And famines are very bad.

You can't just artificially set supply and demand! It doesn't end well! You end up with the CCP trying to force farmers to produce steel now which they obviously can't do because they don't know how and they end up making nothing but pig iron.

A lot of self-designated communists don't seem to actually know how Communism works, they just imagine it's "guillotine the billionaires and then Food and Medicine are Free Forever" which... look, I would love Food and Medicine to be Free Forever, most people would, but the systems are tricky!

If my (admittedly basic) understanding is right, I'm pretty sure making a Command Economy is Very Hard when your Very Big Country is sliced into 50 different states with slightly different rules.

I wouldn't claim to be a master of political tactics but "Trans people will only have rights when everyone is the same type of Communist I am" seems like a bad strategy for getting trans people rights. Especially in the US, which is emphatically not structured in a way that's amenable to Communism!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it feels like a nonzero number of folks in the queer community took "to be queer is to be radical" to be an aspirational statement rather a descriptive one. But an identity should not be radical! To simply exist should not be radical!

I'm glad he was able to overcome his alcoholism. Presumably he became a very stable individual after that, making no questionable decisions at all.

I think Mojo could be a good MCU villain, but perhaps they don't use him for fear of it coming across as Biting The Hand That Feeds.

(I did have a totally crackpot theory that he's going to be the ultimate villain in the Spider-Verse trilogy)

Though I do know who Mojo is, and think he's terrific, so maybe my knowledge of comics is sort of Eclectic.

Random and probably silly question, but does anyone do "he could do so much more good if he gave his money away" discourse with Iron Man? I feel like Iron Man's expenditures are higher than Batman's by several magnitudes, what with All The Robot Suits. Batman's mostly bulk purchasing batarangs.

I don't know much of anything about Japanese politics, but it seems like it has a lot of interesting stuff in it, just based on passively observing how people who know about it talk about it.

I read a book from before the Trump years called "It's Even Worse Than It Looks" that pretty much blamed all our modern political dysfunction on the Republican party and specifically marked Newt Gingrich as a huge contributor to the party's current awful state. This was assigned reading at BYU!
