This is a fascinating conversation between one man who is an incredibly intelligent writer/political thinker and one man who is Ezra Klein.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how women are held to a much higher standard than men in terms of behaviour. The false equivalence of reading romance novels to watching extreme porn is an example of this double standard. But people PASSIONATELY argue how they’re identical. With zero irony.

No aid has reached the starving people of Palestine.

Israeli forces continue to block access despite the imminent risk of literally mass mass death of babies & children.

Today we MUST make our voices heard - come if you can at 6PM to Parliament square & #fastforgaza #r4today

And Angela Rayner staring into a void like she’s being held hostage.
It’s just sad.

Thames Water executives to receive bonuses from £3bn emergency loan Utility’s chair tells MPs that retention payments are needed to prevent rivals ‘picking off’ staff

It's just so gobsmackingly, in-your-face, contemptuous. If these bonuses are to hold on to their 'best employees' as they claim, I say let them leave and go off to ruin other firms who seem to think bonuses = responsible and professional staff

There’s one slight issue with Labour’s immigration plans: they’re completely untethered from reality | Jonathan Portes The government’s new policy will take us back to an uglier, more dangerous place – and it’s not even supported by the data, says professor of public policy Jonathan Portes

"The UK is very good – much better than most European countries – at integrating migrants, because most Britons, and most migrants, want integration... The rhetoric and policy we saw yesterday will take us backward to a much uglier, and more dangerous, place."

Not that it is a surprise given the direction, but the only German party leader that I could find giving a statement on yesterday's immigration annoucements by Keir Starmer was Alice Weidel and the AfD celebrating the turn in migration policy.

Today, the UK Government has sent a clear message: it is choosing not to stand with women & girls.

To avoid being remembered as one of the worst for women and girls, it must immediately reverse these cuts and protect their rights.

The step-up in anti-migrant rhetoric from the government is shameful and dangerous.

Migrants are our neighbours, friends and family.

To suggest that Britain risks becoming “an island of strangers” because of immigration mimics the scaremongering of the far-right.

UK care homes face ban on overseas recruitment under migration plans Yvette Cooper to announce proposals to reduce net migration in response to growing pressure from Reform UK

Any politician who wants to ban migration for care homes should be forced to wait 9 hours for the toilet. I imagine pandering to anti-immigration groups would then feel as painful and illogical as it does to disabled and older people left without care workers. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

It is deeply weird that only after a sustained years-long campaign to deprive trans people of every right enjoyed by cis people did the Guardian ask someone from a womens' refuge if they had ever had problems resulting from trans women using their services & got the reply 'Never, in fifteen years"

Mainstream radio presenters like Vanessa Feltz are perfectly happy to contribute, in their own small way, to the rise of the extreme far right.

Her interview with me on LBC just now was chock full of lies. Calls herself a journalist.
Really I wonder how they sleep at night.

US imposed a 50% tariff on Lesotho,
whose average citizen earns less than $5 a
day.

Why?

Because the formula for supposedly
"reciprocal" tariff rates has nothing to do
with tariffs. The Trump team have
calculated each penalty by dividing the
U.S. trade deficit with a given country by
how much the U.S. imports from it and
then doing a rough adjustment. Because
Lesothơ's ppl are too poor to afford most
U.S. exports, while the U.S. imports $237
million in diamonds and other goods from
the nation, they have reserved the highest-
possible tariff rate for one of the world's
poorest places. The idea that taxing
Lesotho gemstones is necessary for the
U.S. to add steel jobs in Ohio is absurd

Trump’s whopping great tariffs on the tiny African nation of Lesotho sum up the full madness of the scheme.

We've been talking an awful lot about how the Trump tariffs will hit the big players: the UK, China, Canada, France, Germany etc
But it's time to talk about the ones who DON'T have loud voices. Because some of the poorest countries in the world are going to be crippled by what happened last night
