Waubgeshig Rice's novel follows an Anishinaabe community in the face of apocalyptic crises. Now, as the veneer of civility and the raging cruelty of greed have become devastatingly apparent, this novel is especially important and nuanced. The narrator, Billy Merasty, was terrific.

I would love to see a change in the Dems playbook that doesn't end with the call to action being donating. I fully understand the need to fund organizers and I contribute plenty. But at this moment, organizing needs to be massive and orchestrated, not tv time.
