My favorite artifact in the "you don't need AI to do art" discourse is, of course, screenwriter Dan O'Bannon's sketch of the facehugger to explain it to Giger.

Tangentially, I was literally born here, he grew up in Mount Isa which is a speck of town in the middle of bum fuck nowhere that does mining and cattle, but he knows how to navigate the inner city like he's jacked in and living in neuromancer.

ALSO GOT THE THING FOR ABOUT A HUNDRED DOLLARS LESS THAN I WOULD HAVE PAID AT THE ORIGINAL STORE. Any way, lesson learned: Ask husband. At least when it comes to the local area he knows this place.

Spent about two hours today both looking online and then going to a store to get a thing to find said thing was not there (inexplicably, online said it was) only for Husband to say "there's a shop that sells those things twenty minutes walk from here".

Walked twenty minutes, got the thing.

I'm not currently employed per se so my current job is basically repeating people's names over and over and over again (dog, husband, children).

.... I call them by their names though. Not. "Dog". "Husband". "Child".

the magic of the Muppets is that there are two fourth walls. they constantly break the one that reminds the audience they are performers. they NEVER break the one that reminds the audience they are puppets. this dynamic is the key to their entire comedy style

I do have a friend who lives in the northern suburbs and has a big enough yard for chickens but I'm never crossing the bridge ever (sorry) and they definitely DON'T live in walking distance to shops.

I will in no way ever give up inner city life I don't think but I watched too much The Good Life when I was a kid and have fantasies of chickens and goats and STILL living within walking distance of a supermarket and major train lines.

Been meaning to watch Pitch Black for a few decades at this point (ever since I watched Chronicles of Riddick) and finally did. Surprisingly great creatures, awesome cast. Love to see Claudia Black in anything she does. Have heard there's a fourth movie coming out soon which I'm excited about.

In any case, a fun trip, I learned a few new things, and the city was gorgeous (not too hot). Next week I think I'm going to do Hyde Park Barracks, from what I can see it IS open during the week :D.

My favourite part was learning that a bunch of the convicts on the Charlotte were conducting a coin counterfeiting ring below decks during the trip from England. I now need to look this up and find out exactly how they did it because I cannot fathom how.
