Don't get me started on trying to persuade folks to read your original work. It's hard enough getting them to read about your fandom OCs.

All of this is very demoralising and frustrating. I would not be able to build a Patreon following by writing, so we're drawing again today. Same as it ever was.

This makes people reluctant to read anything that they don't already know they'll like. If you can get into a new fandom early while there's little or nothing to read, for example, you can gain an audience, but if you arrive late, folks already have their favourite writers and won't read a newcomer.

You can look at a piece of visual art and enjoy it instantly. You know immediately whether you like it or not, and it only takes a moment to appreciate. Visual art rarely demands more than a bit of your time or effort. Writing, on the other hand, needs you to sit down and read it and think about it.

Got reminded again for the first time in a while of why I don't write much anymore: I'm a far better writer than I am an artist and much prefer writing as an activity over drawing, but visual art is always so much more popular and well-received online than writing that I'm kind of obliged to draw.

2.1 Lenses, Not Boxes I wondered whether this section was necessary, but games discourse seems to repeatedly find itself adrift in questions of whether _ counts as a _. We have seen the question repeatedly: Do games count as art? Do games without goals count as games? Is The Sims a game? Are hypertexts interactive fiction? Are Twine pieces literature? In fairness to the researchers cited here, all of whom I respect immensely, many of these sources pose or imply the question rhetorically. Still, the necessity of such a framing frustrates me. "Is _ a _?" is, in my opinion, a fruitless question. The question can never be answered to anyone's satisfaction, and it often serves as either a provocation to espouse politics or as a cover to institute gatekeeping. Its agenda is usually opaque to onlookers and bewildering to those trying to advance the field from across disciplines. We should be thinking in lenses, not boxes. It is always more interesting to ask "If we think of _ through the lens of _, what do we learn?" We know it is more interesting to ask "What do we learn by considering Tom Stoppard through the lens of poststructuralism?" than to ask "Is Stoppard's work poststructuralist?" And while some works may be more or less fruitful when examined through different lenses, sometimes the most unlikely pairings of lenses and objects are the most rewarding. Certainly any of the questions above would be much better served by reframing them in this way.

Please tell Nintendo (and all other developers/studios/manufacturers) tht you want physical only, on the cartridge/disc media.

Not sure if they will listen to these, but to preserve game ownership this is a pretty important survey. If you buy a video game you should be able to play and own it without having to download it (even tho you have the disc) online subscription service or risk of it being pulled from your device.
