Since 1980, the ECHR has heard just 29 UK immigrant deportation case, and the UK won 16 of them. Quitting will make no material difference to immigration, just weaken protections for absolutely everybody in this country. But Farage and the Tories know that.

Sometimes I think about how from 1935-1975ish, Bell Labs produced an insane amount of revolutionary science and technology, including 11 Nobel Prizes, the transistor, UNIX, C, the laser, the solar cell, information theory, etc. The secret? Provide scientists with ample, steady, no-strings funding.

It was wonderful when failing Grayling's tribunal fees policy was found to be unlawful. Never thought I'd see Labour trying to revive it.

Trudeau named not reforming the voting system as his big regret. Starmer shouldn't repeat his mistake.

The stakes are now much higher than just who wins the next election.

When there's such a disconnect between how people vote and who wins seats, trust in democracy is at risk.

Getting the bus to these events pass through some deprived areas of north Glasgow. The fascist flag shaggers have put flags attached with cable ties halfway up lampposts. Knowing the sectarian culture, these are al about "this is our territory", "we don't want people who are not like us"

The far-right gained absolute power in the Weimar Republic based on 30% support in a democracy. Still it took a few years and catastrophic appeasement by other parties for this to end up with the Enabling Act. FPTP provides a shortcut to absolute power.

Jeremy Corbyn could and should have stopped Brexit and forced second referendum in 2019. The ducks were lined up for a vote of no confidence in the Johnson government and the installation of a government of national unity led by, e.g. Harriet Harman, but he chose not to cooperate.
