About 6Β½ riders/km, a decent showing, though a disappointing 22Β½% female participation (picked the wrong week, itβs usually 35%-ish).

Osakaβs showpiece streetscape Midosuji Boulevard has undergone major changes. In the build-up to hosting the 2025 World Expo, the city began experimenting with reallocating parts of the road space: widening sidewalks, limiting car traffic, and creating continuous protected infrastructure for bikes.π§΅

Top image -a cyclist dismount sign is placed nonsensically by the footway in front of barriers around some roadworks on the right hand side of the road, which donβt impede travel for anyone more than the usual parked taxi(s). Bottom image - Surrey using the much appreciated βnarrow lane do not overtake cyclistsβ sign at roadworks
What? When Iβm in the opposite carriageway and there's plenty of room for everybody? The barriers are over whatβs usually a taxi rank. Itβs come to a pretty pass when Surreyβs roadworks are signed better than Outer Londonβs.

43 people *possibly* jumping a red light (some may have gone through before it changed)
56 people waiting on red in the same section of video.
The same 4 riders and car appear in 2 completely different frames in the 0-200 count, and the signals show both red and green in a substantial section, because 2 video tracks have been overlaid. The green light track is fainter which makes it look like riders are jumppig the red.
Using the 0-200 count section in the Blackfriars pedestrian-cycleway crossing video, I canβt verify the claim that over ΒΎ of riders meeting a red light ride through it*, plus there are reporting anomalies as per the third picture.
PS over 300 go through on green.

Note that there are very few ASL boxes in Surrey, in contrast to SW London where a situation like this would get one (link). An ASL at the Farnham junction would have made Frankβs tribulations moot, & there seems to be room #postcodelottery

From video analysis, the main cycle circuit inside Central Park has an elevation profile of 9.9 m/km and has about 8 male and 7 female riders per kilometre, similar to North Holland with an elevation profile of 7.3 m/km (because of sand dunes) and 8 males, 8 females per km. A circuit in nearby city streets has an elevation profile of 3.6 m/km and from video has about 4 male and <1 female rider per kilometre, similar to southeast London with an elevation profile of 3 m/km and 3 males, <1 female per km. By comparison the Amsterdam area, with an elevation profile of 3 m/km supports 22 male and 22 female riders.
NYC cycle usage is very different inside and outside Central Park in Manhattan. Itβs more like North Holland inside, and southeast London outside, despite inside being a bit hillier. Conclusion - make your cycle infrastructure like your parks. (see also Alt text)
