RIP Robert Tinney (November 22, 1947 – February 1, 2026), the artist famous for his playful covers for Byte magazine, a hobbist magazine that ushered in the microcomputing age from the mid-70s through the 90s. I'm honored to have included his work in my own art collection.

Inking/painting more of the big LOTR figure set and I'm up to Éomer. His pencils (right) never clicked for me - proportions wrong, horse wonky, I felt like he oughtta have a lance instead of a sword but couldn't make it fit, etc. Redid it this morning (new version on left) and am much happier.

every time i see some new attempt to Streamline and Optimize our Lives i think about this kurt vonnegut quote that does rounds. we're dancing animals! not everything needs to be optimized! sometimes a tedious task creates an unlikely opportunity to learn something about yourself! or for joy!!
