It's a very apt comparison, wish I'd thought of it when I was praising The Power Fantasy. As a big fan of Rising Stars it's an incredible compliment (and an excuse to talk about Rising Stars, hence the summoning).

7/8! ✨
Thank you to Little, Brown Ink and author Daniel Nayeri for trusting me to capture the first weird and wonderful tale in the series. This project is made possible by a magnificent team of magic makers. I hope you all enjoy!
Yeah I took Latin in college too, no one cares bud

17.05.2025 19:21 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I do respect the hell out of any comic book movie whose finale doesn't revolve around a punch contest. I love a punch contest as much as the next guy but sometimes it really can and should be resolved another way
10.05.2025 03:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Neutral IS interesting and I do want to try that. When we're both in neutral and someone whiffs and gets counterattacked - that's fun. Back in neutral and a trap gets sprung - that's also fun. Parrying a fireball and rushing in? Yep, fun!
Combos are the boring part, both to execute and experience.
Can vouch, this right here is a good book! Enjoyed the heck out of #1 so back it now to make sure this series can continue!

I have a problem, I admit, but I'm all the way in.
Hey friends! I put together a little guide of where I purchased all my artist alley table supplies as well as the list of the manufacturers I use for all of my products. We don’t gate keep over here. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

10.03.2025 22:06 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I might laugh but I also connect and that's the most important thing. I've failed before and I'll fail again but I hope other people at least appreciate that I tried without tearing others down in the process. "Everyone sucks at this, I can do it better" is rarely a good foundation for creativity.
02.03.2025 13:36 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I LOVE terrible movies, unironically. Watching someone attempt to make something they want to be amazing and just fail is beautiful. They put their entire heart into it and tried their best and it just doesn't work but dammit they're trying - I love it. If the effort is earnest, I'm a supporter!
02.03.2025 13:35 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Good rule for surviving the internet! Criticism is easy - the huge majority of these negative feedback machines rarely MAKE anything and when they try it is often quite bad.
Creation is hard. I'd rather make (or experience) a spectacular failure of a project than cynically profit from negativity.

My brother also enjoys comics and has given some very honest reviews, which I appreciate! My wife reads them as well. Lemme make a bunch more and see how true that remains! Everyone else I'm honestly unsure but it doesn't change much for me - it's not everyone's medium and that's fine.
12.02.2025 01:35 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Also, the art is absolutely bringing the heat! I quite enjoy the touch that people before and after transformation look like the same person despite their differing appearances. It's hard to explain exactly what I mean but I bet it's even harder to do. That being pulled off here is super impressive.

To close the faves of 2024 list let's talk about Lawful from @gregpak.net and Diego Galindo. I bought this because I trust Pak and that trust was well-placed - this is an unsung hero of the year. It's nuanced and the characters are fully understandable even when they're wrong, which for me is ideal.
31.12.2024 14:15 — 👍 7 🔁 2 💬 1 📌 1The cover of the comic "Ain't No Grave" #1, published by Image Comics
Next to talk about for fave of 2024 is Jorge Corona and @skottieyoung.bsky.social's Ain't No Grave. 5 issues of action-packed and character driven awesomeness. This team keeps knocking it out of the park and '24 was no exception. At this point if anyone on this team is on a book it's be a must read!
31.12.2024 01:32 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The cover of the comic "The Nice House on the Sea" #1, published by DC Comics (Black Label)
Nice House on the Sea likely needs no introduction. A direct sequel to the previous Nice House book, @jamesthefourth.bsky.social and @amartinezbueno.bsky.social continue to absolutely crush it. The intrigue is intriguing, the writing top tier, and the art is utterly fascinating. Top shelf stuff!
30.12.2024 15:37 — 👍 4 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0The cover of the comic "Vicarious" #1, published by Boom Studios
Last but not least on the "talked about before, remains excellent" list is Vicarious from @thatryanparrott.bsky.social and Eleonora Carlini. After only 3 issues this story has already taken us for quite a ride and I love it. In an era of decompression I appreciate the pacing of this book. No brakes!

Another book I've mentioned before, One for Sorrow from @mckelvie.bsky.social is amazing. Only 1 issue has been released as I write this and it's so good the whole series makes "fave of 2024" list. Stellar writing, amazing art, intrigue, old-timey goodness. The gif is me waiting for more (no rush!).
28.12.2024 16:29 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0The cover of the comic "Uncanny X-Men" #1, 2024
The last few years have been a renaissance for the X-Men and 2024 saw new fissioning of the characters across books. Among VERY strong competition my personal fave is Uncanny X-Men from @gailsimone.bsky.social and @davidmarquez.bsky.social. Rogue as the leader and some new mutant youngins? Yes plz!
27.12.2024 23:20 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The cover of "The Power Fantasy" #1
I said this when I caught up with the first issue after missing it for a month or two, but @kierongillen.bsky.social and @casparw.bsky.social's The Power Fantasy is phenomenal perfect 10 comics. We're 5 in so far and I take NOTHING back about that initial reaction. This series is gonna be banger!
27.12.2024 16:19 — 👍 16 🔁 4 💬 2 📌 2The cover of "Kill All Immortals" #1 published by Dark Horse Comics
Next up, time to talk about Kill All Immortals from @zackkaps.bsky.social and Fico Ossio. The story of someone breaking away from the family tradition, business, and custom is itself a worthwhile read but then add in the incredible violence? Win. Conflict should matter, and this book reflects that!
26.12.2024 12:55 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Hunter's Moon is probably "best newcomer" of the last few years. Would definitely read that!
26.12.2024 11:38 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0That's just PART of the reason why it's one of my first reads on each release. This particular issue isn't the first and hopefully isn't the last issue of the series to try something unusual to tell a story and even the "standard" issues are stellar. The entire series is straightforwardly excellent.
