22.01.2026 13:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Source for the Finch West issues I mentioned: swanboatsteve.wordpress.com/wp-content/u...
22.01.2026 13:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So far I've yet to hear of bearing issues on Finch West, so either less curves makes that big of a difference, or Alstom did something different on those trains.
The issues Finch West is having are mainly switch, e-brake, and cab heating related.
ie. Not the same as us.
Blaming inherent mechanical issues on the weather is extremely counterproductive, and it pushes a false narrative.
The biggest incident on line 1, the Tremblay derailment, happened during a mild Fall day. No freezing cold. No snow. No beaming sun. No rain.
Weather is not the problem here.
This issue has nothing to do with the weather. While yes, the train sometimes has issues in winter (we are not alone in that), the core problem lies at the wheel-rail interface. This means RTG and Alstom need to work together to fix the core issue of line 1, but the P3 partnership discourages this.
22.01.2026 13:08 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0At pop-up hours today, Ajay Ramachandran showed me the data visualizations he's been working on using GTFS data on bus delivery. Bus by bus, scheduling block by scheduling block, Better Transit Ottawa has built an incredible tool to dig deep into trip delivery and reliability.

20.01.2026 22:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Bank has the potential to be a beautiful community hub lined w/ local shops that people of all walks of life can access, but it's not.
Currently it is a disorganized, unsafe mess because drivers think they're entitled to park directly in front of storefronts (which they usually can't anyways).
4/4
You should take a moment to look into what they did on Dufferin St in Toronto. There's some amazing before & after videos showing how not only do buses benefit from bus lanes, but so do cars, as buses no longer cause jams by having to weave in and out of the parking lane to access stops.
3/4
Because of how OC Transpo schedules their buses, a 2 min delay on Bank can easily snowball into a 15 min delay later down the line.
This isn't just about travel time. It's about efficiency and making movements down Bank more predictable, easier scheduling, and therefore less cancelled trips.
2/4
I don't think you quite get it. We need to make as efficient use as possible of our small fleet while we work on healing it. How are buses sitting in stop-and-go traffic at all efficient?
When a bus is late enough, trips start getting cancelled because there is NO BUS TO REPLACE IT.
1/4
3) Emergency bus lane and transit priority measures need to be enacted on key corridors to ensure our working buses are used as efficiently as possible. We can't have our limited bus fleet standing still in traffic.
20.01.2026 20:45 β π 18 π 4 π¬ 2 π 1Also saying, it might be worth getting in touch with some mechanics, and see what they have to say!
I think it'd be quite compelling if, in future posts, you can say with confidence what exactly extra OC funding would go towards :)
One of the biggest roadblocks I'm sensing is the working conditions of mechanics at OC. While BTO has yet to get directly in touch with an OC Transpo mechanic, we hear time and time again from other employees that the mechanics are both underpaid and exclusively get overnight shifts.
10.01.2026 20:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That memo was seriously a breath of fresh air after the endless fluff and non-answers that the... previous GM gave us. It was great to see problems like our bus and mechanic shortages finally be explicitly addressed and solutions proposed.

01.01.2026 05:09 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As I touched on in my other reply, there were exactly 4 cameras outside of community safety zones, as they were a part of a pilot project. I don't have the details on hand, but you can probably find it on the city's website.
31.12.2025 22:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The one on Hunt Club was one of the precisely 4 in the city that were part of a pilot project. The one on Bronson may have been too if it was south of Carleton (university students are people too believe it or not).
That still leaves 60+ cams that were near schools, parks, and residential areas.
LMAO you disagree with me therefore I'm a techbro?
Touch grass, idiot.
