31.07.2025 02:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Wait, they don't follow the New York Times Crossword, apparently don't follow the NPR radio puzzle, apparently don't follow the ACPT, etc. Where did they hear of Will Shortz?
25.07.2025 23:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm writing about nonincreasing sequences of zeroes and ones. So you could have all zeroes, all ones, a one followed by zeroes, two ones followed by zeroes, etc. (Here a sequence is a function from Ο, the set of natural numbers, to { 0 , 1 }). How many such sequences are there?

Back in the Maleska era (plus or minus an era or so) there were tons of obscure botany terms, so this puzzle is your chance to give all the obscure (or semi-obscure) bird terms their turn.
13.07.2025 03:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ah, OK, we are agreeing then. "Jadeja punches umpire after onfield disagreement!" is pretty good clickbait
03.07.2025 22:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Wait, what kind of clickbait are you comparing it to? "Jadeja got too close to the danger section of the pitch. You won't believe what happened next!"
03.07.2025 22:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Noes ended up being Collins, Paul, and Tillis. So Johnson voted yes. Said that Trump was doing enough to cut spending or something like that.
01.07.2025 21:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I risked your fate by reading the article. I don't THINK it is going to enter my dreams or my regular thoughts but..... how do I know <raised eyebrow>?
30.06.2025 23:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You are reminding me why I love to go see post-fire landscapes (I've had the chance to visit a number of the sites of the California fires of 2020, and have loved it).
29.06.2025 17:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think the reference should have been to the motion to proceed - at least according to www.newscentermaine.com/article/news...
29.06.2025 17:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Seeing predator-prey interactions does have a certain circle-of-life harshness to it, fair, but it is also kind of cool and amazing. I watched www.inaturalist.org/observations... for many minutes when I ran into them on a hike.
29.06.2025 17:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0As much as I love wildlife of many sorts (including in my backyard), the house vs not-house line you are drawing here sounds reasonable to me.
29.06.2025 17:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Clusters of cylindrical green blooms on a vigorous clump of short green milkweed, with long, wavy-margined leaves that feel like plastic. Not in this short, but a bumblebee visited while I was taking this photo.
I just love short green milkweed (Asclepias viridiflora), which has been a part of the native flora in all but one of the states I've lived (IA, KS, AZ, and WI, but not OR). I saw it in all of those states (in AZ, the Flagstaff area). It's a slow plant, a conservative plant, and old-growth plant. 1/
26.06.2025 02:13 β π 35 π 4 π¬ 3 π 0It does seem like it would liven up the game more than mere sandpaper, breath mints, and fingernails.
25.06.2025 00:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That article is fantastic nonsense throughout but I especially liked (from the section describing the current DRS): "we conduct the whole [DRS] thing under rigid time constraints that adds a whimsical element of panic to the entire process."
25.06.2025 00:13 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Oh, I see. The curse only applies to semifinals not finals. Very interesting loophole South Africa has uncovered.
14.06.2025 14:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I was trying to read the new bunny hop rule and all I could think was that this was designed to solve the problem that we needed a rule more complicated than the LBW rule (to keep cricket mysterious or something, I suppose).
14.06.2025 14:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yeah, but that would set off an arms race. Once one team takes your advice, then the other team would feel obligated to sing theirs in five part madrigal-style polyphony, and who knows where it would end?
13.06.2025 06:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh, OK, the solution was 'βgayβ appeared six times, in the names of organizations and in direct quotations'. I was hoping it would be more devious: "sexual liberation gala fundraiser was a gay old time" and other references to that meaning of the word gay.
13.06.2025 00:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I suppose this is where we drag out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tre... and I suppose if the people in this case were really on top of their game they would have microscopically etched "this is not a violin" (in French, perhaps) under their microscopic violin.
09.06.2025 14:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Reminder to myself next time I'm thinking of opening a burger restaurant: put it next to the salad restaurant with the flaky owners.
08.06.2025 02:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0To be honest I'm a tiny bit disappointed in "The violin is a microscopic image rather than a playable instrument" but I suppose if it were playable the pitch would be ultrasound somewhere in the 10 MHz range? (my math could be pretty far off on that)
08.06.2025 02:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Because it annoys the Olds would be sufficient reason but it is also quite possible that these trends are merely oblivious to what you or I think.
05.06.2025 04:52 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Exactly, I hope people not familiar with your work fully realize what a high compliment "wonderfully silly" is coming from you.
04.06.2025 00:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As someone in the United States I find myself asking myself the same question. I guess whether democracy polls well depends on how you ask the question but I wish I had more definitive answers about whether to run on democracy or run on the other issues.
03.06.2025 18:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sri Lanka also has a big obstacle to winning this particular contest.
03.06.2025 15:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I assume you saw this in the other replies but in case not: the need for compassion is real but most of what is in this post is wrong: see translifeline.org/clarifying-m... from @translifeline.org
03.06.2025 15:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Playing while hungry, are we?
03.06.2025 14:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This post has given me a lot of insight into what goes on in the winter when it is too dark and cold to play cricket.
28.05.2025 14:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The dress is dividing the internet into the people who have heard of the dress and the people who haven't. Hint: the two groups are not of equal sizes.
