Just finished Colm Tóibín’s Brooklyn and now gone on to Long Island

North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. I read it about ten years ago and completely forgot it takes nearly a hundred pages before they are in Milton.
The BBC adaptation definitely hurries The Hale’s departure from the South.
