Minnesota showed us how it's done. We are not done. We are only starting to understand what organised resistance is and what it can do. There is SO MUCH that still needs protecting. Neighbours, systems, and institutions that must be preserved and rebuilt.

And not just for the shooters. Also for illegal detentions, illegal search and seizure, violence against peaceful protesters, and any other illegal action.

This is a great start, but Minnesota and the rest of us must still be vigilant, active, and committed to nonviolent direct action. We must still defend our neighbours against the remaining ICE presence, provide safe havens, warn people of raids, etc.

Actually, something like 70% of those stationed abroad are in Germany, Japan, and South Korea--none of which have jus soli. Italy, Spain, the UK, Guam (Americans anyway), Bahrain, Belgium, and Turkey--all the next biggest hosts--also do not have it. Most military kids don't have dual citizenship.

Of course, some of us are born dual citizens or are Americans who obtained other citizenships . . . .

Wondering why, instead of just talking to Abrego Garcia, Van Hollen didn’t bring him home. El Salvador Canberra bribed to take him; surely they can be bribed to release him.

The MAGA Machine relies on compliance. Military at the border? Soldiers can shut it down. Logging at National Forests? Logging employees can refuse to cut. But each action costs the individual long before it has a cumulative effect, and each seems ineffectual and small, so people don't bother.

We are not yet so far gone that turning up the way they are in Istanbul is dangerous. We are not yet at Tiananmen Square’s massacre. But if we don’t show up now, that’s where we’re headed. The people in those places showed up despite the risk. We can do the same.

Watch some older TV--80s and 90s--and you can see how far round the bend the US has gone. All the progress we have made and all the ways that progress has been and is being erased. How well or poorly things aged, what we accomplished and where we failed. Or go further back. Same observations.

I don’t want to say it, but worse things are coming. Until people quit obeying illegal orders, all the judges‘ injunctions in the world will be meaningless. Unless people physically stop abuses, they won’t cease. Filming or putting on blast is a start—documentation is needed—but it isn’t enough.

Maybe all those America First people can pay attention now that it’s American lives being put at risk rather than just, you know, the lives lost to genocide in Gaza, human shields in Ukraine, detained immigrants, and people in countries vulnerable to climate change catastrophes.

We are glad you are here and will continue to fight for those protections.

Cruelty is the point.

Telling us that Trump is a felon and shouldn’t be in charge of things isn’t helpful. We knew and elected him anyway. You aren’t changing anyone’s mind by reminding us of his cheating, lying, first term shenanigans, etc.

Focus on documenting new crimes and resisting illegal activities.
