Why isn’t Australian media covering the fact that Donald Trump’s blockade is creating a humanitarian crisis in Cuba?

ABC gave Trump hours of coverage yesterday, but an entire nation suffering from his actions gets nothing.

Australian media isn’t covering this but what’s happening in Cuba is dreadful. Trump signed an executive order cutting off Cuba’s last oil supply. Ten million people are paying with their lives. Sewage systems are failing, food is rationed, it’s getting worse.

The PM calling Grace Tame, a woman fighting for the safety of children, β€œdifficult” is completely unwarranted.Β

Labelling women as difficult won’t silence us. It won’t stop us speaking truth to power.Β

Next time try β€œunbreakable” or β€œwarrior” or β€œfierce”, Prime Minister.

Finland's epidemic 22 Feb 2026: the amount of virus detected in wastewater is now 60% higher than during the first Omicron wave in 2022. The post-Omicron baseline appears permanently higher compared with the pre-Omicron period; repeated waves show no sign of diminishing.

I am a physician who will be wearing an N95 in all clinical encounters for the rest of my life because I don’t want to commit the harm of passing on a respiratory pathogen to a patient. This seems like a minimum duty, like handwashing, but I am unfortunately in a vanishingly small minority.

Dear Young People.

This post is written for you…

Our generation of doctors decided to let you all get infected with a novel virus without even protection from vaccines in many cases, and we already knew that some of you would be killed or disabled for life when we made that decision.

something abled people don't get is you can have just one day a week where you are too sick to work, and that's enough to disqualify you from nearly all full-time jobs. it doesn't take a lot

No reason to think Australian hospitals have cleaner air than this.
Politicians made sure Parliament House has hepa filtration and clean air. Not so for hospitals, schools and other public places.

Subheading notes researchers now recognize eight forms of long COVID, with slow treatment progress. Main image shows Samantha Crausman, 28, lying in bed wearing an eye mask, covered with a blanket in a dim bedroom with pillows and items nearby. Reflected in the window, her father, Dr. Robert S. Crausman, stands outside on a porch wearing a mask and winter clothing, looking in. The scene highlights strict precautions to avoid reinfection, including limited contact and visitors staying outside.

Samantha Crausman, 28, has had ongoing symptoms since a COVID infection 4 years ago. She and her parents were fully vaccinated when they got COVID in 2022, but only she didn’t recover. At risk of worsening with reinfection, her family still lives with strict pandemic-level protections.

I interviewed Dave Howe, the manager of Dissent Bar, which was raided on Wednesday by the Australian Federal Police, under the pretext of the new "hate speech" laws, for displaying anti-fascist satirical artworks.

New data shows property investors buying almost twice as many homes as first-home buyers thanks to government tax breaks. Average property investor loan is ~ $100,000 larger than the average loan taken out by a first-home buyer, which guarantees investors a leg up at auctions.

Many still have this worry of relatives going into hospital and not coming out due to their medical risk. Covid infections are still ongoing with no testing, incorrect PPE or no PPE. Nothing in place to prevent airborne transmission, poor vaccine access, no lessons learnt.

Groups like Advance "do not merely reflect public sentiment; they manufacture it, translating diffuse economic anxiety into targeted cultural grievance and providing the rhetorical templates that politicians then adopt."

And Albo's Labor is unable/unwilling to counter.

Below the headline is a photo of a man in profile sitting on a couch, wearing a red shirt with a face mask pulled down under his chin. He is exhaling forcefully, and a visible cloud of fine droplets or aerosol particles is shown spreading through the air in front of him, illustrating airborne transmission. A caption beneath the image states that tiny droplets and aerosols can hang in the air and build up indoors even after an infected person leaves.
