A Review of a review magazine? Makes sense.

Telethugs is indeed tremendous.
It's worth noting though that the ZX Spectrum version is already out. We reviewed it in our issue 2.
Covering Speccy games for a free magazine is clearly not the same as running RPS, but the linked article has some great advice for reviewers generally.
It also overlaps nicely with our half-formed review policy for BreakSpace. So now we don't have to clarify that, just point at this instead. Tidy.
R-Type in BASIC.
You have to applaud the ambition!
Brings a tear to the eye, it does.

A lot of you retro gaming types will be jetting off on holidays about now, so why not load up your tablets with a 92-page ZX Spectrum magazine? Perfect reading to accompany your pool-side Margaritas.
Especially since it's just been updated to fix a couple of nasty typos.

A screenshot from itch.io from poet laureate ( I assume ) r-lyeh stating "If this is not actually your favourite ZX magazine idk wth you're doing with your life" Which is about as good a review as we could have hoped for. Succinct and forceful.
What are people saying about the new Summer issue of BreakSpace, the ZX Spectrum review magazine available free at breakspace.itch.io/issue-2 ?
Things like this, which is pretty terrific.
Naturally, we goofed up one of the BASIC listings. There's a big chunk missing between lines 560 to 645 in Animated AL's Break Space : The Game
An updated version has just been uploaded, so please download again if you want to type the game in. Sorry!
Somehow this was Alan Sugar's fault.
'used to' ?
We just released 2 type-ins today.
Issue 2 of BreakSpace is live!

Our scorching Summer issue features 38 reviews of new ZX Spectrum games, Type-ins, interviews and loads more.
All free! Enjoy.

Big chunky sprites and bold colours in this screenshot of Plyuk on the ZX Spectrum. Our hero pauses on a ledge while two flying weirdoes approach overhead.
The final Ace of Issue 1 went to Plyuk

A 'technical tour de force' according to Jamie, this spectacular platform-puzzler left jaws agape with its looks, and backed it up with a fun self-cloning mechanic and some tricky levels. As Mpk summed up, this was 'a treat, frankly.'
Quadrax on the ZX Spectrum. A side on view of the inside of a tomb carved into a mountain top. The shot is taken just as our 2 heroes have united and are about to pop into the teleport to end the level. It took me ages to get here, it's a tricky level.
Quadrax, awoken from its 30-year slumber and translated, picked up Ace number 6. Sloany praised the 'really special' animation of the main characters, while Al raved about this 'darn cool unearthed gem'. It's another puzzle game, with a cool tomb-raiding theme.

A screenshot of Skill Team on the ZX Spectrum. An overhead tile-based view of a room with boxes to push, holes to fall down and coloured powers to take advantage of.
We stayed in puzzle territory for Ace number 5, the immaculate Skill Team. Jamie praised its polish and modern sensibilities, Mpk called it a 'charming brainscratcher' and Sloany declared it 'an extremely satisfying ride'.

Master Piece on the ZX Spectrum. Pieces are laid out on a 4x4 chess board. Doesn't look like much, if we're honest, but it'll melt your brain.
Ace number 4 went to Master Piece, a brain-taxing solitaire chess puzzler.
Sloany admired its 'outright fiendish' levels, while Dave reckoned it was a 'fascinating riff on the 900-year-old boardgame'.

07.07.2025 19:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A screenshot of Throbbin' Headache DX on the ZX spectrum. It's a platformer, with our baseball cap wearing hero Robbie in green with deadly robots all around. There are also a surely fatal dose of 14 headache tablets scattered about, which Robbie must collect. Don't try this one at home, kids. Always read the label.
Throbbing Headache DX picked up Ace number 3. This is a tricky single-screen platformer with a unique jumping mechanic. Sloany noted that the levels were 'well designed, with a fiendish, almost sadistic, edge' while Mpk praised it as 'thoroughly fresh'

MoonRn on the ZX Spectrum. Our 8-pixel-tall hero gives a jolly wave from a pier before setting off to jump across the moonbeams shimmering on the lake ahead. A giant moon shines out from behind the treeline.
The second Ace in Issue 1 went to MoonRn, an double-jumping runner-style platformer with atmospheric visuals and cool music. Al called it a 'fun jaunt', while Dave pronounced it a 'quirky, fun, well-made runner game'.
You can grab it from snauts.itch.io/moonrn
