My tap water had a weird taste and the water company site was down, so I posted on my local Facebook group to ask if anyone had heard any news about it. Nobody answered the question but people did start arguing that fluoride is bad for you and I feel like this sums up social media perfectly.

Attention teachers! Kialo.edu is a free tool for thoughtful classroom discussion. It creates an interactive discussion map that helps students understand how different ideas link together. It's funded by a philanthropic foundation, so it's ad-free and they don't sell user data.

False Positive Paradox - Critikid When the prevalence of a disease is low, widespread testing of asymptomatic people leads to a high numbers of false positives.

Imagine there is a virus that is always asymptomatic in males. 1% of males are infected with it.

There’s a test that never produces false negatives, but it has a 5% false positive rate.

Phil takes the test. It comes back positive. What are the chances he is infected?

I saw a post just like this today. I'd never heard of the tool before. The people behind it are probably delighted by the free advertising. In fact, I suspect they deliberately marketed their product in a weird, outrage-bait way so this would happen.

Can someone who understands SEO please explain why Critikid has 20K backlinks when there are only 77 linking websites? Are they harmful to SEO? If so, is there something that can be done to get rid of them?

Have friends or family with very different political views? Try this: swap phones and scroll each other's feeds. It's a quick way to see how differently the same world can be presented.

We are more likely to share things if they spark outrage in us. This can increase the chance of us accidentally sharing misinformation, AI-generated videos, etc. A healthy online habit is to notice when a post triggers anger and take it as a sign to stop and verify before sharing.

Thank you. I think you're right. The spotting approach is possibly harmful if it gives people a false sense of being able to tell.

One idea I have is to focus on how our confirmation bias may impact how willing we are to believe a video vs. AI (if it's something that may affirm/challenge our beliefs), but it still doesn't really get to the root of the issue. I'm genuinely at a loss. /3

29.01.2026 11:57 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I think we've reached the point where the best videos are indistinguishable. If not, we will be there any day now. And it's now so hard to tell that people are starting to assume videos that are not AI are AI. /2

One of the things I teach kids as part of Critikid is media literacy, but I'm really not sure how to approach the topic of AI videos anymore. The technology gets better every day, and whatever AI spotting techniques people teach quickly become irrelevant. /1
