We old school conservatives have had to give up none of these principles in our opposition to Trump:
limited federal govt;
individual liberty;
strong, not belligerent, national defense;
rule of law;
due process;
character of our govt officials.

Trump devotees have had to reject them all.

A Trump supporter once expressed concern I suffered from TDS. Maybe, so pondered then rejected that possibility, with good reason. Might Trump supporters who cannot condemn the killing of a likely panicked and confused mother by an ICE agent be suffering from some kind of Trump attachment disorder?

Finished reading The Missionary Kids by @hollybfletcher.bsky.social. Glad I read it. It is challenging, instructive, validating, distressing, hopeful. I know! The last chapter, Searching for Home, wonderfully written. It is beautiful and heart wrenching.

Scenes in Terrence Malick’s The Thin Red Line and Edward Zwick’s Glory show an officer’s refusal to carry out an order. Don’t know how true to life they are, they are viscerally true. In the light of current events they are worth looking up and watching. Caution, profanity and offensive language.

I pretty much give up and escape, take a book and go have coffee at the local coffee shop. Or browse the used books store. I often see a smile in those venues. Or I visit the library, where I always get a greeting and a smile. However, not sure it really dispels my disillusionment.
